I did that one time yesterday........I think.....But I deleted the first one and uploaded it again. When the second image came up, the first was still there so I deleted it again. Could that be what you are talking about?

Well, for what it's worth, my opinion is that the offending parties be asked to stop, and if not, be put on a time out, as I detailed in my post in the "Caedes for a day" thread.

@ Phil and Rob.

Could you BOTH Clarify or Define in your own words "Same Image Repeatedly".
Do you mean "Same Image" or "Same Type of Image", as I post many different angles and shots of Great Egrets. If I post too many images of Egrets or Birds I certainly want to know about it. Am I Sadly The Latter?

Well, since Phil left no room for misunderstanding with that clarification, I'll paste, in it's entirety, the post of mine I referred to:

[edit] [complain] [message] Wow. Great question, and the show of interest is much appreciated.

1) Reduce uploads to one a day for Cadre Members, 1 every other day for "regular" members

2) Place new members, and/or their enties, in some sort of trial holding area. This might cut down on posts that would be more appropriate...elsewhere.

3) Eliminate the C index entirely. The mods claim not to use it for promoting images, so..what real purpose does it serve? Make commenting compulsory the way voting is.. and make it (and voting) compulsory for everyone, Cadre or not. No ticket, no laundry.

4) For members who re-post denied images, place them on a "time out". Maybe some cooling off might help them see that no means...no.

5) To satisfy members' competitive urges, maybe make contests a regular, monthly feature. It might help to ease the C-index afflicted. Hi, my name is Rob...and I was a member ;-)

6) Recruit or promote more &'s and+'s...to lighten the load of the existing mods.

Ok, how's that?

Perhaps they forgot to check the box for the image being included in the voting booth?

I believe what Phil is referring to (correct me if I'm wrong Phil) is Not an issue of "Whoops I forgot to do this" or "That doesn't look the way it was supposed to" and taking it back down immediately. Rather someone uploading an image, leaving it up for a time, and then taking it down, and then re-uploading it several days or months later, and then repeating the process again. Sometimes on the same image, sometimes on different images.

no im referring to the practise of either jockeying for position in the new images gallery or the even weirder practise of just uploading the same image without changing or deleting the first one

Okay, okay, I'm corrected ;-)
It was just something I thought about, if one forgot to check the box, if there was a way to check it later... But I just read in the other thread that something like this will come soon.
Anyway, in the case above, I would second Rob's idea.

I can not understand why anyone would want to do this - I can not see any advantage or reason. Maybe sometimes it happens by mistake ?
I second Rob's 5) and suggested something similar myself recently. Is there anything to prevent a member from initiating a contest? Or a theme for a specified time ?

no - nothing preventing that as far as I know Lyn - perhaps speak to the contest guru Les for his advice.

I have seen this happen a lot recently, but I always wrote it off to some sort of error, whether it be on the artist part or some computer glitch at Caedes. I don't understand why anyone would do it intentionally. This is from my experience: I uploaded a picture, and after seeing it, I decided to delete it and make a few changes. For some reason my deletion didn't take, and it came up in the new images anyway. Now, maybe someone did the same thing, but also re posted the image after making the changes, before the new images came up, thus not knowing that the original was not deleted. You therefore have the same image twice, with one having very subtle change. Just a thought.

Maybe some members upload with (or without) activating the c-index function and then change the mind...
Edit: yes, I found a lot of rejected (duplicate) images with c-index = NA, then reposted with a real c-index.
I think it will disappear when people will be accustomed with the new c-index system.

Your a lucky boy Rob to have been able to re-post the images that you removed because I remember another member who did that a couple of years ago and was not allowed to re-post his gallery, I argued that til I was blue in the face, even when I proved that other members were re-posting images just for the sake of improving the numbers, even had proof where they blatantly wrote that they were going to re-post their images... so I don't think it has much to do with the "new" system members have been re-posting images for years. *please note i'm not having a dig at you.. i'm merely pointing out that re-posting has been going on for awhile.

If any of the mods feel that I've reposted any of my work, and was wrong to do so, please let me know, either here, or in a PM and I'll happily remove them, so as to stay on the right side of the rules here.

I think this recent problem (see Phil's thread) happened because of the change of the c-index system. It will stop by itself. No need to argue IMO... ;-)

Just disseminating some words from our beloved webmaster from another discussion thread:

"If the votes don't appear ... am I allowed to delete the image and re-upload the image to receive votes and a C-Index score from the booth?

- You should not reupload an image for this reason. We will soon have a way to easily select an already-uploaded image for the voting booth."

"I can not understand why anyone would want to do this - I can not see any advantage or reason."

It would appear that 'jockeying for position' is the operative phrase for this offense. As some have it in their thoughts, that if their image(s) fall off the front pages of the new images gallery ... their work won't get the deserved attention or views. Simply put.

And some concern has been voiced about this in the past. That is, too many images being uploaded at one point ... and relegating, almost immediately ... those early in queue for approval, to the so-called 'back pages' of the galleries.

None of the people that have responded to Phil's discussion thread here are guilty of the activity noted, btw.

In short, it is a waste of site resources. Time et al. Let alone contravening upload protocol and site policies.

Oh :) Silly me, never thought of that. How odd though. :)

A point in favour of the randomness of the VB then - that is where I see most of the images that claim my attention.
