Default display of images...

There is the occasional image that does not display at the default size but rather a much smaller size (and distorted!)... the headers are displayed in Firefox 3+ as...

The Title is San Antonio Texas Mission - 2008 in New Images!

Not wrkin' (When I click on the enlarged-'thumbnail'.)
http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Caedes::Showimage&name=IOIOSOTWIG-1238303470.jpg&width=160&height=600&ts=1238341201&r=1

Wrkin' (When I click on the image size rather than the 'e-tn'.)
http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Caedes::Showimage&name=IOIOSOTWIG-1238303470.jpg&width=1074&height=805&ts=1238341201&r=

The default size is the 1074x805.
(And the minimum size available for viewing is 802x602!)

The size of the enlarged-'tn' is 399x300.

This happens with certain other images as well. If you wish, let me know and I will go through the other New Images to determine exactly which of those do this. :o)

Edit: [This problem is not happening in IE7 BUT my default of 36 images per page display while in FF became only 12/page in IE. I made the change while in IE back to 36/p and will now see what happens when I get back to FF! Good! It remained at 36.]

Can you verify that you are still having the problem? I just made a change that may have fixed it, however I was not able to reproduce the problem myself.

Thanks for the note,

Think you may have fixed the bug, *caedes.

It was occurring for me as well. Desktop resolution size (or smaller, as that would be what I did/do when viewing images) ... distorted. I would simply reload the image and that was my workaround.

And another member PM'd me about the same thing. I've replied back and asked if the situation still happens with him ... to report to this discussion thread.

(*crosses fingers ... /\ that it will not be necessary /\*)

Spoke too soon.

Here is the 'a picture is worth a thousand words'.

Of noteworthiness (perhaps?) ... I could not replicate the situation with images that I knew to be problematic in the past.

The above, however, is a recently uploaded image.

IE7 here ... clicking on the actual thumbnail results in a distorted image being displayed. At what I would assume, should be my 'desktop resolution'.

FF is still having this trouble with Les' reported image and also with

Biffobear's <<< Heavenly Light >>>

I will check on IE7 and other images before reporting more here.

Yeppers! Just like Les stated... (basing this on but one image- San Antonio~) the old one(s) now display correctly in both IE7 and FF. BUT some new images... now have this same problem in both IE7 & FF. It at least appears you have made the site compatible with both browsers! :o)

Edit: A number of new images are having this problem in displaying the highlighted default size...

Corngrowth's <<< I've Seen You Mr. C. >>> Now werkin'! Now NOT werkin'!

And I shall take a break now... I see that change's are being made... some picture's that did not display correctly do so upon a return to viewing... so you must be debuggin'! :o)

Again... And all seems well now! Even Jeenie's picture 'first light' which was reported to me as posted by a 'friend' which was not displaying correctly is now workin' like a charm!... and it was not yet in the 'New Images'! :o)

I am posting a new note here to draw attention to the fact that I think (hope) I have made the discovery that will help solve this problem...

When I find an image that does not display properly...
if I click on the new >>> button and the next picture displays correctly,
and I click on <<< to return to the non-working pic...
I find the pic now displays properly! AND if I exit FF and re-enter, the pics that didn't work and then did... no longer display properly.

I will test this finding on other pics further into the New Images listing...

At this time, things seem pretty good... in both IE7 & FF. :o)

Edit: But not now... I am thinking it has something to do with <<< &/or >>> :?)

(*unplugs Con's pc power supply ...*)

/\ Thought, he deserved a break or something.

:oP

/\ Just kidding, Con.

Thanks for validating my image viewing experience(s), as well as, the additional information. Now, we let *caedes perform his magic. :o)

A-ha! I have just gone through the source code for the page of a pic and I see what must be causing the problem... you have a section in there dealing with a ValueClick and a SkyScraper Code of 160x600 (at the bottom of the page)... I don't know if this was there previously or what it is to do in the future... but this is the resolution that is sneaking through for some of the images posted... and not only the new images... I just hit a picture posted in 2005 (one of the three presented at log-in) that has this same display problem!
TBhockey's Frozen Foliage
And after finding a message from Les re. images not showing in past contests... I decided to see if that problem still existed... it didn't!... but I found another 2005 image in the Breaking Rules Contest that did not display properly.
trisweb's Looking Over the Fence

BUT! If I go through either of these links to view... there is no problem!
Everything is so Con_fusing!
:o)

Now you just need to find why the trigger 'is' or 'is not' being set properly... could it be related to security changes in the browsers or javascript?

Tuesday morning... and things related to this display problem appear to be better... and I say appear only because of this problem being inconsistent to date. This AM, I could only find two images that went to the 160x600 resolution...

Joanie's Trippy (New Images)
SatCom's Just a Little (24/03/09) so I imagine New Images [It was one of those 3 presented at opening page].

I am not putting in links because they seemed to fix the problem yesterday!

If you haven't made any changes overnight... then inconsistency is the key-word... what with browsers, javascript and such always updating! :o)

A minor thing... when I click on New Images the + beside it becomes - and all the sub-dirs of NI are displayed. Is it a difficult feat to allow a click on - New Images closing it and returning the - to + ? Needless to say the same request would apply to any other of the options with a + in front of them.

Most images display fine... of the bunch I tried, only Switzerland 134 did not... until I used the >>> and then the <<<. (4:45 pm Pacific time)

Thanks for your persistance with this problem. There was a conflict between the javascript variables that the advertisment was using and the variables that we use to store your screen's size. I changed the names of the variables, and the problem is fixed.

The observation of the 120x600 size ads was very helpful.
