The future of Caedes

With the opening of the possible new policy change, I started thinking about the development of Caedes.net. The art is excellent, the layout of the site is easy to use and doesn’t distract from the images however, with this possible policy change I began to think about how Caedes might change in the future. The site is getting large enough now that it is not a small site anymore and seems to be in a middle state of development. I think if the site continues to grow there will be a major decision about the direction it will go. I started using Caedes about a year ago after I found it on an internet search and have been a daily visitor ever since. One of the things I enjoy most about it is the free-user base. I think Caedes is a community that is focused on one thing: good art. There are no subscriptions, or any commercial distractions from the people and their expressions. I hope the site stays this way and does not become some MMORPG fashion statement. I want to know everyone’s opinions as we face these changes.

The policy change would not impose on the freedom of artists or visitors I think. It's just a way to keep the high standards intact, I think, if not improve them quite a bit.

I'm not sure I follow on the MMORPG comparison since I don't play games basically, role-playor or not, on or off-line or otherwise. ^_^

I am always impressed by this site. The hard work that Caedes and the mods put in is much appreciated. I think that the recent changes to c-index, gallery cleaning and policy details are good. These changes are needed to help the site develop in the future.

Since I first came to the site, more and more users seem to be active and many more images are submitted. I think it is inevitable therefore that certain restrictions are made. Given that this is after all a private site, I am always impressed by the the fact that the administrator(s) are largely unobtrusive.

In the future there will need to be further decisions made to determine how the site develops.

Personally, I agree with the new policy changes, however I would use slightly more constructive and positive approaches, by setting up a resource to help those with mediocre shots learn to take great ones. I have explained this in detail in the other policy changes thread.

I read those suggestions you made and I think the discussion boards are an excellent place for advise. I think they were using some humor when they wrote the new policy even though they are serous about it.

Thanks for the thread ieliles. I too recognize that the website is sort of at a turning point. I've tried pretty hard to allow the members of the site to choose the direction that the site takes as it has been growing. At this point however, I want to make sure that the site continues to promote the advancment of the art and and not become just another free-for-all image repository.

I got that impression from the way you selectively pop in on threads and image comments yet still observe all that goes on here. I agree with you that the site's main interest should not be a repository. Nice wording, ;)

"selectively pop in on threads and image comments yet still observe all that goes on here"

I prefer to call it "lurking" =)

I said it before, Caedes is out to take over the world. The site has mesmerized the world' and is growing in leaps and bounds every day. Think about it? Who can come to this site with out telling someone about finding this really cool free wallpaper site? Lets face it, this site has found a real niche and is on it’s way to becoming a household name.

Art is the perception of the creator. Meaning is the perception of the viewer. acceptance is the perception of society.

Maybe caedes.net members should put a sign on their lawns that reads "What the heck is caedes.net?" or maybe "Caedes for President/2008 -visit Caedes.net" or something like that. LOL!

Right on, prismmagic...that's exactly why I chose the username "mesmerized" 'cause that's how I felt about the site after visiting caedes for many months, even before I became a member...I was constantly amazed at the quality and diversity of the images and had never seen anything quite like it on the internet...I sure hope that whatever lies ahead for caedes, the same quality will continue and I also hope the same friendly interaction between members will continue. : Pat.
