I just noticed that the Deviant Art prints service has just added the ability to create custom calendars. This could be our big opportunity to create a caedes.net calendar for 2005! I know that many of you have been wanting to do this in the past. I think that this would be a great chance for both the members of the site and for the site itself.
All I need now it to figure out how to submit the calendar to the service. I'm not too sure of the format that the image needs to be in and there isn't much documentation about the feature. Comments, ideas?
So I guess we will have to somehow select 12 images from different members that represent the site as a whole? And then maybe a collage (similar to the poster) for the cover?? Do you design the layout/fonts etc. yourself or do you choose from a predesigned range? Sounds like a terrific project and maybe a way to raise some extra revenue for the site.
Do you mean "we" as a whole? Or can each of us individually order custom calenders with caedes images? This is a really cool idea... and it might actually make me use a calendar for once. =)
On a more serious note, I actually do like this idea a lot. I suggest combining it n a package with a poster as well; I had been thinking of one for a couple of months, and this might just push me over. If this does get serious eventually, I would reccommend selling different genres, perhaps an abstract and a nature photography, possibly more. Maybe for next year if you have a year to plan it.
Well I think caedes would probably just do one to start with, and then maybe next year if sales were high enough he could offer more; however considering how many posters were sold I wouldn't hold your breath.
I think it would be better to choose the best examples from the site rather than try to get 12 new ones... besides, the next contest topic has already been chosen *knowing smirk*
contest !!!! who said contest lol ... where do i start
seriously tho ... great idea ... i have been working on a personal callendar for my chrissie presents to the family
either way it would be great for the site

I love this idea! What a great way to promote this website and it's artists. Plus we could all have a calendar that actually means something to us! I'm behind this 100%.
not sure how those posts got switched around, but the time on mine was much later then I posted, and I had a rate limit all last night because of it lol
BJ: I think it would depend on the size of the calendar. If it was of average size, I think it would be better to use a single image for each month that people could see and appreciate, rather than trying to cram several images into each month that people wouldn't be able to see properly.
Personally I have never seen a calendar that tried to use more than one image for each month and I think there is a good reason for that.
Agreed, even tho collages would definitly make it more fair, and give a broader representation of the site. I think that its more appealing to have a 1 image per page calender. I think the representation would be fixed if they ever decided to make multiple calenders as suggested above.
I think Lucy had a great idea with an image from each of the galleries... An image from the "Caedes" gallery or from the "Caedes Theme" contest would be great for the cover.
The base price for the calendar is less than $20. I'd probably not add anything to that since the amount of profit that we could make would not really be worth it.
A calender is a great idea..... like the idea of images from different galleries.. dont think a collage would be the way to go... definately only 1 image to a month or even four to a month eg.... 4 different flower shots... or scene shots
That is an idea, true, but have you noticed how contest images generally have a lower rating? I don't think contest winners should be the only images. They definately shouldn't be disqualified form the calendar, just not the basis.
If I was designing the calendar (assuming it had the normal format, space above and faded space behind the date boxes), I would use one large image for above the fold, and several behind the date boxes, even though they would be faded. This would mean a few more images could be used, even though the focus is still on the select few. Does anyone agree?
We need to have the calendar ready to purchase before Christmas. Half of the calendar will be out-of-date at this rate before we even have settled on the images to use. I say leave it up to Mr. Caedes to pick what images to use, I trust his judgement (he did an excellent job on the poster). Then it would be a surprise for everyone.
