Archived just 3 days after Posting?

Seems strange to me that a photo would be archived just three days after it was put on the site. Is this normal? Maybe because I put it in the Animals instead of Pets category? I tried to change it after I posted it, but didn't see how.

well ... where do I begin

I can understand why you value the image .. but

1) .. the image is a snapshot
2) .. the image shows no artistic merit
3) .. this is not an image "sharing" site where any image is valued ... we do wish that members would exercise an artistic selection process when deciding what to post

an anti-snapshot reminder exists in the COC .. and, I believe, the posting page ... we have been instructed to approve the image, but there is no promise it will continue to exist in "general population" .. it is still available in your gallery

I hope this helps a bit

Well yeah, it helps a bit. I can understand that, except it seems that
this pic and this pic have about the same amount of "snapshot-ness" to them, and they are still out there, one of which has been out there since last October.
I think there is some merit to my pic because it is a dog with a raincoat that has drops of rain on it. At least that shows more art than a pet on the floor in the living room. . . doesn't it?
Seems to me that it goes back to me placing it in the wrong place.

Martie, perhaps you need a different frame of reference. If I might, I'd like to direct you to the "permanent" Pet gallery. Click the "Photography" link in the left margin (not "New Images"), and then scroll down to "Pets" and click it. Maybe seeing pet images that have been selected for "permanent status" might give a clearer unstanding of what image mods are, and aren't, looking for in posted images.

Hopefully this will clear things up a bit and be taken in the helpful nature in which it's being offered.

Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.

in the old days images were deleted, rather than 'arc'd' .. and, as corny and cliche as it may sound .. "I feel your pain" .. I have been a digital artist since joining caedes.net (a photographer in the 80's).. and I have stated many times: "I only post so that I can reach for the cheesecake at the group gettogethers, and not get my hand slapped" .. so, it goes without saying I've had many an image deleted\arc'd

Yes, it could very well be a wrong place issue, and the +mod was off his meds .. The images you point out have been posted to the 'community' nook ... and that hallowed repository was created for that purpose .. "snaps" .. "hey, it's me, Bubba" ... "look what I saw today" ... and, the quintessential, "awe, iddn't he cute" ... I did not arc your image, so I can not speak to the exact reason .. but image sorting is a full time job, considering I don't chip in (I'm special) ... and the mods doing it need to maximize their time.

you are new .. and I truly hope you enjoy your time here .. many images are mis-cats (wrong category) .. we have some people that have placed everything they post in the "caedes" gallery .. because, hey, it's caedes, why not

(*takes a moment out of his cardio training (RCMP boot camp starts in two weeks) ... to place some considered words for all concerned, not the least of which are directed towards Riverside's benefit ... he hopes ...*)

Hey Riverside,

First, let's address the issue of moving (wherein, you are doing the 'moving', that is) of an incorrectly placed/mis-categorized image.

Simply open any of your image's pages. Underneath your accompanying narrative(s) you will notice a number of buttons. Clicking on 'edit' ... will allow you to 'move' your images if you err or some glitch (happens) comes into play during the upload process. From the drop down menu that appears beside 'gallery' ... reselect the appropriate gallery.

And ... done. :o)

That said ... onto the photo of your Sachi (cute dog, btw :o) ) ...

When I view your photo, what first strikes me is the 'red eye' present. And then that of your perspective ... seldom does looking down on a beloved pet make for a good image or photo. Followed by the use of a flash. This latter factor underscores the first point.

'Out there'.

As Keith makes mention of, and I do hope that you 'get this' ... your photo is still available for viewing as it still exists on the site. It has not, as also been made mention of by Keith ... deleted from the site. Which did occur in the not too recent past.

When a new member starts posting, some latitude is granted, insofar as 'snapshots' are concerned.

It is 'our' fevered hope, that once posted ... constructive criticism will be forthcoming to assist/help define ... what is good good imagery. Towards the end of helping you, the artist, improve in your artistic endeavours.

Unfortunately, said constructive criticism is not always proffered by the membership for whichever and whatever, reasons. So ...

Taking a look at the comments your photo garnered is but one gauge as to how 'good' it is, in the collective viewer's eyes. In this case, only two commentaries. Short, polite ... and missing out on any points of any constructive criticism. In my humble opinion, of course.

Speculating here, and in viewing your galleries to date ... it would seem apparent that you know, either intuitively or innately ... as to what constitutes a good composition and pleasant image to view. Generally speaking.

"Riverside Reflections" readily comes to my mind.

Going to be frank here ... "It's Raining out there!" is not one of those images. Endearing ... yes. Cute ... yes. And that is the extent of it's 'appeal', artistic or otherwise ... and again, in my very humble opinion.

And since we are both here ... where your flower images are concerned, a suggestion ... not a rule, mind you ... and again, referencing perspective ... looking down is seldom a good one. Try differing angles, approaches. And as mentioned by Rob; aka third_eye ... peruse the permanent galleries to have a look see for some good examples and other ideas for presentation. Carrying on ...

Suggestion.

If you find yourself perplexed as to some of the decisions rendered by image mods ... and more so, for future reference ... state clearly in your accompanying narratives that you are seeking constructive criticism. That, and at times, seems to open the lines of communication a bit better between you and your viewers. No guarantee, mind you ... however, if you are truly interested in furthering your knowledge and skills, both; behind the lens and in post processing ... I am sure that those types of commentaries will eventually make their way to your image's doors.

The next and last point I would like to make, in direct relation to your discussion thread here and although I can understand the 'why' to an extent behind the reasons you did so ... would really prefer you not to single out other images ... publicly.

As you did with the linking to the two other images above. Please relegate that stuff to PMs. Of which and of course, is an option to you ... just do so in a PM to an 'image mod' (those of us with a '+' symbol in front of our usernames), when seeking an opinion on matters such as what prompted you to post this discussion thread.

How to best enjoy your time here:

Don't get caught up in numbers (those in your 'Caedes Control Panel', for example), nor the pursuit of 'fairness' across the board(s).

'We', the image mods make mistakes from time to time. And ... are open to polite enquiries as to what occurred or why a particular decision was rendered.

Know this ...

'We', those of the administrative team of caedes.net ... volunteer our time to the site here. (Just wish to impart some perspective here, that's all.)

And, again, as mentioned by Keith ... wish to see you enjoy your time on the site.

Keep shooting ... and happy shooting. :o)

Riverside: the two examples you give above were posted into the 'New images->your community->Pets' gallery. Yours was posted into the 'New images->Photography->Pets'.
It's not the same.
The 'Your community' was created to share common photos without artistic value, but with sentimental value. They are normally not archived.
It's obviously not the same with the 'Photography' galleries...

Dovetailing on Pierre's words above ... and referencing your own words, those being these;

"Seems to me that it goes back to me placing it in the wrong place."

Had you placed your image in the 'Pets' galleries ... (most likely and in all probability) would not have changed the outcome.

To be clear here, that of your image being archived.

Perhaps, later than sooner.

General rule; images have a life-span of approximately one month before being 'moved' by 'us' ... which seems to be the sticking point to a degree as perceived by me, with respect to the intent of your discussion thread here.

Recall Keith's words above in one of his postings/responses, which I will repeat;

".. but image sorting is a full time job ... and the mods doing it need to maximize their time."

First of all, I would like to thank purmusic et al, for all of the comments and wisdom and suggestions.

For the record Pierre, I didn't post the photo to New images->Photography->Pets as you say in your post, but even worse. . .I posted it in New images->Photography->Animals. From the help purmusic gave me on how to change the placement of a photo, I have moved this archived photo to the place that I should have chosen from the beginning, but didn't know how to move it. i.e., Your Community ->Pets

I have to admit, in my eleven days of being on this site, (at the time of posting the pic in question), I had not yet explored the 'Your Community' link.

Third Eye, I looked at the gallery which you suggested and I see exactly what you meant. Thank you for that advise.

Lastly, thank you all for your time in responding.

I noticed today that a Rework photo that I posted 10 days ago has been already been archived. I would like to know by who and why it was archived so quickly. The photo was named LINK .

Are a lot of people getting their works archived in the first week or two?

Feel free to answer me in a personal message.
