My son is looking for a place to go that has beautiful scenery, but he doesn't want to travel too far. We were thinking about Maine, but if you guys know anywhere in the US w/ great photo opportunities, can you tell us?(p.s we live in Massachusetts)

My folks wouldn't let me cross the street at that age .. ok, that was a joke

chances are good you're talking about grand vistas .. or you're planning a family vacation soon ... I will leave those recommendations to those that know the area

Where you choose to go is your business, but, chances are good that, as a new photographer, ANY place .. a regional park 10 miles down the road would suffice .. when your son learns to "see", (and that is a photography term) ... the world will change for him ... from the very small, that he never paid attention to before, to the grand vistas

The very small is everywhere .. yes, you can quote me on that

Why not Boston? Went there as a kid, and the coastline is amazing. Sunrise/sunset is especially amazing.

Then there's always my little town of... NYC ;-)

Not a sweeping counryside, but plenty to fill one's lens wih.

Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.

Sometimes the beauty is in front of your nose in your own town/neighbourhood/garden, you only have to see it.

Wild Wonderful West Virginia. Canaan Valley Area, Dolly Sods, Spruce Knob, Seneca Rocks. All are WONDERFUL places for nature pictures. And all within an hour or so of each other. Plus numerous caves and rock formations to see. Plus some of the best remote waterfalls are within this little circle of places. Good luck and Good shooting.

I would go to the Mid Atlantic... It is a bit of a drive however you have so much to choose from, Lancaster with the Pennsylvania dutch, Baltimore and wow so many things there to photograph, Washington DC, again there are things in side and outside to capture, then there is the Beaches in Delaware and the mountains of Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia. There is Harpers Ferry in there and the rivers in this area with the appalachian trail. If you don't came here you will be missing a lot.
