I assume you want it to record from the TV (as opposed to copying from a DVD) ? I don't know anything about them but unless you were wanting it for this purpose I think a DVD burner would be a better option. But I imagine you would know that already.

The reason I am wanting one is to copy digital camcorder tapes to DVD.I have a DVD burner in the computer but it takes a really long time to copy them from tape to DVD on a pc, plus I want it to use it like a VCR like you metioned.

what do you use to connect your camera to your computer? Because that is the best way to make a dvd out something you have captured by a digital camcorded as far as i know. You can get software that will set up menus and allow you to edit the movie. Some of the software is really easy to use from what ive seen, so if you are able to get to this site i would guess you probably know enough to use some of those programs. As far as connecting your camera to a computer the best way that i know of is with a firewire cable. It is very fast. The only reason i would buy a dvd recorder, esspecially if you already have a dvd burner, would be to record TV. I hope that is helpful. Im not super fimilar with video camera's as i don't have one, but that is what i have heard.

I connect the camera to the computer with firewire, getting the video on the drive isnt the problem. Its just super slow to edit the videoand it really takes forever rendering it after Im done editing it.With a DVD recorder Im hoping to just plug in the camcorder and hit play and then record on the dvd recoder and wind up with a playable DVD rather than spending 4 to 8 hours doing it with the pc.

most home dvd recorders have firewire or 'ilink' ports on them and this pionner model is no exception - it is normally faster to copy the film from your camera to the recorders hard disk first so you can review it before burning to disc.
