I would be really grateful for some critical comment on Jonquil I did minimal post work on it and wonder if you have any suggestions as to how I may have improved it. It was taken indoors with flash, against a pale green wall - don't know why it came out grey.
:)
Kia Ora,
Thanks Mimi and to coram9 for leaving feedback.
The jonquil colours are true colours Mimi - white petals, orange/yellow trumpet.
I may have a play with it- I think the graininess is partly the slight sparkly texture of the petals.
The again perhaps it is just better left in the not quite right basket :)
I have a few other shots taken at the same time -
THIS was one of them, with some post work done on it.
WOWZERS Eve - I had an opportunity to look at both pictures. To be real honest, the first one called "Jonquil" really looked plain and made me feel drab. I place all the blame on the gray background. Not the least little bit joyous. It would be fine for a Sympathy or Easter card. Did you just experience a bad day when you took this, it certainly does not reflect your style. The second picture called "This" was an instant success. It brought a smile to my face without the aid of an adult beverage. The dark background made the subject POP and I took instant attention to it. I also like the frame effect you added. I dont usually jump for joy over flower pictures, but there is a night and day difference between the two. Is there any way to improve the first image? yes! delete it. Stay on the bright side of life. You do good work.
I would agree with coram9. The background wall is a perfect 50% gray. The camera auto white balance probably is at fault. Adjusting the white balance to the blue side and adding a little green tint did produce something believable for me, but I was not there so whether it is correct or not I can not tell.
