I got this in my email the other day. While I haven't yet gotten through to the folks at paypal.. it'll almost certainly just be a confirmation of what every bone in my body is already telling me. Seeing how Caedes Cadre members use paypal, at the very least to contribute to the site, I thought this would be a useful post in Non-art, as opposed to Offtopic.

Please, please, please don't fall for traps like this:

---------------------------

Dear PayPal customer,

During our regularly scheduled account maintenance and
verification procedure we have detected a slight error in your
billing information.

This might be due to the following reasons:

1. A recent change in your personal information (ie. change of
address, email address)
2. An inability to accurately verify your selected option of
payment due to an internal error within our systems.

Please verify your information. To do this we have attached a
form to this email. Please download the form and follow the
instructions on your screen.
NOTE: The form needs to be opened in a modern browser which has
javascript enabled (ex: Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 3, Safari 3,
Opera 9)

We are requesting this information to verify and protect your
identity. This is in order to prevent the illegal activity of
PayPal accounts.

Please do not reply to this email.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have
caused. Sincerely, PayPal Security Team.

Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.

Thanks for the info Rob. I have received more than a few of these emails. Whenever you receive any type of correspondence from Paypal they will always have your account name in the heading. If your name is not used you can be assured that someone is pfishing for your account information. What is the best thing to do? delete the email, or if you want you can report the scam to Paypal. and send them a copy of the email. It would be a good idea to right click on the email and review the source for more info about the origin.

Thanks for the info Rob. I use Pay pal for all my stock photo sites and will now keep an eye out for this scam.

This is very similar to emails I have recieved about my bank account.

I was particularly suspicious when I got them from banks that I don't even have accounts with...

I have received several like this Rob over the past few years - I completely ignore them now - I did log into my paypal account once to check but did not follow any links in the email. If there was a problem when logging into paypal I am sure it would highlight it on logging in. Best advice is to ignore any messages from banks - phone them if you are unsure. :)
