Maybe it would be wise to have the mods vote on an image before approving it. We can have the image move after it has two votes of an average of 5 or more. If the average of 2 moderator votes is less than 5 they get deleted. This way we will keep some junk from entering. This would make the place more enjoyable to browse through.
It may do that, but certainly not for the beginning artist! I agree that not all images in the New Images gallery are incredibly inspiring and worthy of placing in a museum, but this gives the artist the opinion of the site, not just the moderator. The New Images gallery, in my mind, is a testing gallery, not a masterpiece collection. If "the public" couldn't see the images unless they were "good", those authors declined would have no feedback on how to improve. It also would take a longer time for the images to get accepted for those that would. In general, I think the New Images gallery is a leaning place for those confused about how the site works, and that would change very quickly. If you feel otherwise, please explain.
They are already talking about quality control in the new images gallery.
I think this site is unique in its quality control with its permanent galleries. I still think that double quality control may be overdoing it, but thats just my thoughts.
Wait a minute... I just realized that theffx is really talking about inappropriate images getting onto the site. We mods are here to do just that, make sure nothing inappropriate gets on, but then there is the problem that each of us mods do not have on clear line to judge the appropriateness of an image. A lot of times what ends up happening is that a mod will approve and then a different mod will move an image into limbo until a majority of the mods deem the image appropriate and move it back to the new gallery. We have argued many a time over what that "line" should be but to no avail.
Having each mod vote on every new image that's uploaded is just impractical I'm afraid. I don't have time to vote on 30 or so new images every day and I know most of the mods would have even less time. I think the current system works well enough and when the snapshot policy is implemented that will help cut down on some of the lower quality images appearing in the "New" gallery also.
No, actually you were right the first time, I was talking about quality control, although while we're on the topic, I did come across some images that definatlely would not be acceptable on national TV, which is the code I thought the site was following.
what do you hope to achieve by your suggestion ... are you saying that the new images gallery in its current form is not acceptable? .. are you saying that the mods are not doing their job properly? or are you saying that because you do not think that an image is good enough that your opinions are better than mine, or anyone elses.
The site contains many great images and offers many of us the opportunity to improve our work. I'm sorry if my images do not meet your expectations but they are done to the best of my ability.
