Instead of having like 1346134 different posts about who likes what band, how about we just all come together and talk about ALL of our favorite bands? Wouldn't that be much more grand than having all those annoying posts about what bands you like?
Well anyway, I'll put some of mine (I have waaay too many): Guster, OAR, Metallica, Korn, Tool, Hoobastank, Rob Zombie (or White Zombie), Drowning Pool (even though they make no more music :-( ) Cake, Bush, Goo Goo Dolls, Hooty & the Blowfish, Pearl Jam, Staind, Dope, AC/DC, Nirvana, Incubus, Saliva, Beatles, Coheed & Cambria, Flogging Molly, Led Zepplin, System of a Down, Alice in Chains, The Eagles, Godsmack, The Cult, Nickelback (well..some), Disturbed, POD, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Subway to Sally, Soundgarden, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Butthole Surfurs, Dick Dale, Marcy Playground, Third Eye Blind, Matchbox 20, Radiohead, Falling Cycle, Rammstein, Stratovarius, Counting Crows, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Depswa, Paloalto, Kitty, Jimmy Eat World, Foo Fighters, Creed, Sprung Monkey, Mudvayne, Thrice, the Blur, Smoking Popes, Sublime, Tesla, Goldfinger, the White Stripes, A Perfect Circle, and actually quite a few others.. be sure to pick some out of there that you like ;-) (or, add your own! I don't care!!)
Hey, I like this sherpa guy.
Okay here are some of the albums that I've enjoyed listening to recently:
A perfect circle, 13th step
Linkin Park, Meteora
Atmosphere, Overcast
Nickelback, the long road
Audioslave, selftitled
Coldplay, A rush of Blood to the head
Red Hot Chili Peppers, (whats the new album called?)
Abandoned Pools, Humanistic
Jurassic 5, Power in Numbers
Disturbed, Believe
White Stripes, Elephant
Tool, Lateralus
a question:
-what is this hate of the "modern rock genre"; besides the fact that it's a stupid name for a genre, that the people that are in it are "conformists", and that they talk about their feelings.
~Conformists are all throughout the music scene, and in all genres people always hop on when something seems like it's going to take off. And even then some of the best music comes from these bands. Very few bands are actually non-conformists when you come down to it. (conforming to the alternative/hot topic lifestyle is conforming all the same)
~with any true artist what they sing about comes from experience or what they feel: Nirvana, Disturbed.
Anyway sorry to make this an actual thinking thread i tend to do that sometimes...
ya know what iggidy, u shouldnt judge some1 by what they listen to, i personally HATE BEYOND ALL BELEIF jurassic 5, but i don't think you're a bad person
Coldplay :: A Rush of Blood to the Head
Jars of Clay :: Who We Are Instead
Michelle Branch :: Hotel Paper
Avalon :: The Best of Avalon
Sarah McLachlan :: Afterglow
then misc. of a lot of a few other bands
A bit different from what you guys are talking about to be sure, but everyone has their taste I guess.
o well yea you got a little hyper......but yea you really need to like...chill..and also LINKIN PARKS NO PRIZE!!!!!!!! all their songs are about the same thing its so boring
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay. <Robert Frost> "Nothing Gold Can Stay"
cannot leave here, I cannot stay
Forever haunted, more than afraid
Asphyxiate on words I would say
I'm drawn to a blackened sky as I turn blue
There are no flowers, no, not this time
There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find
I'd show a smile but I'm too weak
I'd share for you, could I only speak, just how much this hurts me
I cannot stay here, I cannot leave
Just like all I loved, I'm make believe
Imagined heart, I disappear
Seems... no one will appear here and make me real
There are no flowers, no, not this time
There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find
I'd show a smile but I'm too weak
I'd share with you, could I only speak, just how much this hurts me
I'd tell you how it haunts me
I'd tell you how it haunts me
Cuts through my day and sinks into my dreams
I'd tell you how it haunts me
Cuts through my day and sinks into my dreams
You don't care that it haunts me
There are no flowers, no, not this time
There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find
I'd show a smile but I'm too weak
I'd share with you, could I only speak, just how much this hurts me
Just how much this hurts me
Just how much you...
ok, even though everyone and their mom already stated their fav bands, i'm gonna go for it anyway:
Metallica, HIM, Floyd, Three Days Grace, Disturbed, Godsmack, Sevendust, Queens of the Stoneage, Audioslave, Incubus, Bob Marley, 311, Tori Amos, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Crystal Method, Nirvana, Pete Yorn, STP, Finch...hmm im sure theres more, but i guess id remember them if they were that important
well since this thread's starting to die, i thought we might tack on to what we've already written our all-time favorite band and our all-time favorite song. Mine is...
Band: Nirvana
Song: Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen
Metal and Rock
You guys know Sevendust, Static X, SR-71, Zeromancer (you guys shouldnt know him), Linkin Park, The Prodigy, The Red Hot Chillis, Queen, ACDC, Nirvana, Metallica, Finger Eleven
why don't you choose someone more 'modern' - I don't know much of either of those two....
What you guys think of Linkin Park?
I think they have the BEST lyrics, mainly because I can relate to ALL of them soooo Well :S But their music is unreal too! Anyone else got anything to say bout LP?
ahha that may have been harsh...ssorry...but i just dislike linkin park....all of theyre songs are about the same thing....i mean chester beington has mass talent but its all wasted on repeditive lyrics.....they have talent....its sad
OK - just to get back to what we do like, not what we don't, here's a very late entry from an even older man than Synikol ;-). Current listening includes Thea Gilmore, Lucinda Williams, Radiohead, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Flaming Lips, Grandaddy.... All time favourites (today - I'd come up with a different list tomorrow!) Roy Harper, Leonard Cohen, Pink Floyd (saw them play live half a dozen times, from Echoes through to Momentary Lapse, but preferred the earlier stuff) Led Zep (great live too - Earls Court 1975 was the greatest gig ever). See - there are advantages to being old... Plus all the others I've forgotten. And Bach. And Philip Glass. On a good day.
im pretty happy, i've seen both incubus and rhcp in concert. but i'm very jealous of my aunt, who saw pink floyd AND iron maidne within the same year!!! grrrrrrrrrr.......
yea i used to be a big fan...but its all sounds the same....same beat...same theme
Theme: o boohooo you used me and im never gonna get over it
but sometimes they change it up with
Theme:HAHAH!!!! im my own person again!!!! YIPPIE!!!!!
My all time favourites are:
Sum 41 (Cone is Cute!)
The Beatles (My camp nickname is Ringo, hence the username)
No Doubt (Gwen Stefani has wicked style)
Coldplay (Chris Martin is cute as well, and their songs are so poetic)
The White Stripes (I love Elephant!)
Some bands I like but I don't know alot of their songs:
All American Rejects
Greenday
Blink 182
The Ramones
Alice Cooper
Blondie (the band, Debbie Harris is just the singer, people!)
Good Charlotte
Radiohead
Sam Roberts
Bare Naked Ladies (not actually Bare Naked Ladies, they have funny songs!)
The Vines
The Strokes
Linkin Park (yes some of their songs sound the same but "crawling" is awesome!)
Boomtang Boys
Dido
I am indeed a teenager. If there's anyone out there who's a hardcore Sum 41 or Beatles fan like me, leave me a message at my profile thingy.
I'd say I really don't have a favorite band. My tastes always change : Example : When I was 12 I listened to pop groups like the Spice Girls and N'Stink ( * opps I mean N'sync), and now my taste in music has progressed from put into Rock music, and then into classical rock. My taste is always changing. I'd have to say that my flavour of the week would be Pilate, a little known band from Toronto, maybe you've seen their music video "Into your Hideout". Well I really like their music, but as the fickle girl that I am, it will probably change next month. :-)
HEY! I LOVE Linkin Park- they are the BEST, so THERE!! :-}
I also like 3 Doors Down (I'm listening to them right now!- - why haven't I seen their name??), Creed, Incubus, Godsmack, Micheal W. Smith (his old C.D), Garth Brooks (hey! country can be o.k.- stop laughing!), and Staind, can't think of any more right now...
At times life is wicked and I just can't see the light, a silver lining sometimes isn't enough to make some wrongs seem right, whatever life brings, I've been through everything, and now I'm on my knees again but I know I must go on, although I hurt I must be strong, because inside I know that many feel this way... ~Creed~
And what did you expect?....the prefect child....raised by tv sets.....abandoned every mile...never get respect....never a fair trial....no one gives a shit...as long as we smile
i was looking around these music posts and decided to listen to some that y'all "recommended" since i have fairly easy access to get whatever...
Anyway thanks Avi now i've got a fix on Aphex, esp Ptolemy; 151515 you've got some good tastes i listen to each of those fairly regularly.
Sevendust, Incubus, Nirvana, and Depeche Mode are my current faves...

Walk of Life is a great nummer..
The best nummer of them, and maybe one of my favorits of all numbers, is:
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms
U have to download/buy/listen the live version from Belfast or a other live version.. there are 5 or something...
By the way, my favorite style of music... hmm I don't think anybody on this whole site like it... but what the f*ck: My Fav. genre is techno/oldskool/hardstyle That's house..
I'm from the netherlands and I'm young... a little 2 young :S
And here in the netherlands are a lot of houseparty's...This genre of music is very famous here with the new generation...
But I love much genres of music...my dad has more as hundreds cd's...I growed up with it... I think I know ever band that was called here at this forum.. and much of them are very great!
I like anything that I am used to...if I'm around something so I recognize--and maybe sing along--with it, then I'll like it. I also like oldies, Barenaked ladies, REM, Blessid Union of Souls, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashmouth...my boyfriend doesn't like my choice in music, though... :P
I'd have to say Im a total 80's band lover. I love the old 80's rock, the big hair, and everything else that goes along with it. I Actually just went to see Skid Row this weekend. It would have been better if Sebastian was the singer still, but it was still a good time. Just my two cents.

So, I started from the top and read the whole long forum. To add my oppinion, there was far too little talk of Dave Matthews Band and Tenacious D (only one mention!). DMB's newest 3 albums pretty much suck, but their earlier albums, Before These Crowed Streets, Under the Table and Dreaming and Crash are just awsome. So much talent and soul and emotion, it's just unbelievable. And Tim Reynolds (a frequent guest guitarist) is ridiculously talented. Tenacious D on the other hand is just hysterical, and surprisingly talented. The music is pretty good, you can't help but sing along and if you can make it through the album without laughing you have a very odd sence of humor. With songs like With Karate I'll Kick Your Ass, Fu** Her Gently and City Hall, they are just a riot.
moment of silence please for those who never get the chance

The unexpected often reveals new ideas and unexplored paths. Therefore, one must learn to “look.” Nothing should restrict one’s manner of expression as long as “it works.” No amount of words can describe a photograph or create one. Frequently, we “find” without seeking, acting upon Pasteur’s expression “Chance favors the prepared mind.” That is why so many great “accidents” seem to happen to better photographers.--Arnold Newman
hey otaku! I didnt know you were even still on this site! But i do agree with your last statement. All there songs are EXACTLY the same, and i dont see how anybody can find art in that!!! The most talented, creative, skilled band i have know is RUSH!

There is a land of pure delight,
Beyond the Jordan's flood,
Where saints, apparelled all in white,
Fling back the critic's mud.
And as he legs it through the skies,
His pelt a sable hue,
He sorrows sore to recognize
The missiles that he threw.
-Orrin Goof

JOhn Bonham rocked ...
How about favorite composers? We all have too many favorite bands to write, but composers are more sparse. Debussy is pretty cool, very mellow. I think Howard Shore did a great job with those Lord of the Rings movies, but nothing I would buy an album to. My all time favorite is Danny Elfman, anyone ever heard of him??? (Edward Scissorhands, Spiderman 1 & 2, the Hulk, Dick Tracy, Batman, the list goes on...)
Danny Elfman is real good, he seems to do about half of the movie scores that come out of Hollywood. You forgot to mention he also did "The Simpson's Theme". He started in the band "Oingo Boingo" and he married Bridget Fonda last year.
