Not sure how long it will be before HBO series "Westworld" makes it's way across the pond, however, there is the movie that preceded it by the same name; "Westworld".
Yes, I think Westworld got here, but we stopped subscribing to Sky some time back, and I didn't see it when it was on TV.
I've no idea how I would go about watching it otherwise, especially as I wouldn't start unless I could begin from the first episode. It's easy to get a bit lost in this brave new world of spread-out options. :-/ (That last bit should be in the 'Wind Me Up' thread).
"What passes for hip cynical transcendence of sentiment is really some kind of fear of being really human, since to be really human [...] is probably to be unavoidably sentimental and naïve and goo-prone and generally pathetic."
One's judgement of a stranger is likely to be quite harsh, whereas we are kinder towards ourselves or our friends. But what if such a bias is more a Western tendency than global?
Whatever the truth, I'm happy such things aren't etched in stone. People's perceptions, behaviours and experiences may not be what you think they are... or can change.
"...what might seem to be a series of unfortunate events may, in fact, be the first steps of a journey... know that as long as you have each other, you have your family and you are home."
"...they are the sort of people who know that there's always something. Something to invent, something to read, something to bite and something to do to make a sanctuary, no matter how small. And for this reason, I am happy to say, the Baudelaires were very fortunate indeed."
I've only once in my life had a package go astray... and that was the only time I complained. :-) Even the ones that take forever turn up eventually (if that makes sense).
Playing music and setting up my replacement computer (at long last). There's a long way to go (software reinstallation etc), but it's a relief to get back to something resembling normality!
It won't be straightforward today, any more than it was yesterday. Somehow I figure things out, like they are Sam's cryptic clues. 😜😋😜
A song to celebrate... La Grange by ZZ Top. That's the last one that was playing!
Getting the flood control error message.. and trying out a trick that seemingly worked in the past, that was almost forgotten.. but.. worked, yet, once again.
The trick: Click "Preview this Comment".. might have to do this a couple of times, needs further testing.. and then, "Post this Comment".
My thinking here is.. that the bots don't do this, and by doing so, bypasses any defense measures in place to thwart their activity of 'drive-by posts' and merely dumping stuff on the site.
I've noticed something in the iPad. If I try to select text from the preceding thread (like in Hangman), it sometimes won't let me until I click on 'preview comment'. It's as though, after putting a cursor in the comment box to type something, I am still 'in' the comment box and can't do anything outside it. The 'preview' (even when the comment field is completely empty) pushes me back out into the wider world, after which I'm able to select previously published text.
Perhaps the iPad Safari OS (this is an old iPad) doesn't work properly, as I can't imagine it's meant to be this inflexible.

Americas Cup Kudos to Bowers but it was Team NZ that brought the cup home to where it belongs :) Even Jimmy made a point of appearing to be gracious in defeat, How that must have hurt him ! He has never been very gracious before What Jimmy said

'Accidentally' tuning in to a YouTube of Frankie Laine singing 'High Noon' and being transported back in time so far I am sure I heard again my father singing along with Frankie. It was a song he loved to sing.

1:45 hr YouTube video: two intellectuals discussing just about everything -- postmodernism, art, literature, education, free speech, men and women's working lives, interconnectedness and clean water, nuclear families, the possible decline of Western Civilization...
I had to rely on garbled autocaptions, which made it tough to follow in places, but it was worth it.
I loved the comment by one person who had it on to help him get to sleep but ended up more awake than ever. Not a soothing video but real food for thought! :-)
This book is meant for young people but looks fun. The YouTube video (linked to above) was a little unexpected, but it's human and funny, and pulled me out of a blue mood.
Always speak the truth, he says, well, we all need to do that, and I speak truth as I experience it, but one rule I've broken in the past is "Do not bother children when they are skateboarding." I know why he says this, but a kid fell off just as I walked past, and I had to stop his skateboard speeding off under an approaching car. :-) It wasn't a good place to skateboard, otherwise it's a good rule.

Totally agree= mail arriving early Talking to random people at the park and or complimenting(or even randomly smiling) at the downtown people who look distraught. I live in NY so very unlike everyone else here, I love it and have made so many friends.
Finding out my fiance is coming by my job to pick something up, and I'll get to share the ride home with him.
