I have never thought about buying a 50mm lens before. Why should I I have a 18-135 lens that covers this.
But if anyone out there thinks the same, please please try this lens it is so crisp and sharp and so fast, believe me this lens will blow your mind. And it is strange but when using it you have a different view and creativity about your photography.
The f1.4 is out of most peoples price band but the f1.8 is only around 120 pound and the best 120 pound you will ever spend.
I have the Canon version, and I agree wholeheartedly. I was amazed at the difference when I first tried it. The Canon one can be had for around $100US.
I had a similar revelation recently, I usually use a Nikon 18 - 200mm. Its decent at everything which is great cause my job has me taking alot of different type shots in some rough conditions where time is not available for changing lenses. I recently bought a Nikon Af-s 35 mm for portraits and the odd low light thing and your right everyone should rock some fixed length short glass if conditions and circumstance allow. Gotta love that 1.4 f-stop
