Came across something that may or may not be fun I have no idea. I was photo hunting last week when I came across a really nice old billboard took the shot and did the google thing turns out the billboard is about a hundred years old company and history well documented. So started thinking holidays are coming up would it be fun if there is a little challenge going to see who can find the oldest documented billboard or sign. Rules are easy a recent image older than the already posted image and you only upload if documented. September 30 seems like a nice closing date. And of course comment on the images and checking them out and helping out
is always welcome. Before I forget the hunt is on under Billboard I have uploaded my first image.

Sorry if I jumped the gun but first out of the gate does not always reach the finish line first but I sure will try. And bye the way the dust in the distance thats me...........LoooooooL

(*ties laces on running shoes ... ... realizes that some baked good morsel sustenance is in order for this 'race' ... sits down to nibble a few cookies ...*)
... ...
(*makes an executive decision that more cookies are in order ...*)
Slow and steady. Slow ... and steady wins the race ...

Hmm not sure how much luck I'll have with this challenge given that the first Europeans only arrived here a little over 200 years ago... but I'll keep my eyes open...
http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Profile&username=Plinius Chris has maybe found a flauw in my google search as to the validity of my billboard I have asked him to look in on the discussion board and clear things up. Means I am on hold for now. Sam it just got a lot easyer. Some how I keep hearing the words:
Slow and steady. Slow ... and steady wins the race ... I wonder why?

And these are not your run of the mill baked morsel goods, either. Very special cookies ... as they are comprised of almost 100% molasses. Veryyyy ... tasty ... and you best have your chompers in good good shape. Might take a while to consume ...
(*thinks to self ... chuckling at the same time*)
'They'll be lucky to be speaking in a week ... trying to unglue their mouths after eating those cookies. My nefarious plan has now been put into action. Victory shall be mine, once again!!
Muahah.. ... right, forgot about the evil stuff being rough on the vocal chords.'

Consumed by its own heat the Phoenix bursts into flames until all that remain are the ashes of this once so fabulous bird. But the Phoenix sings its own song Il symbolise ainsi les cycles de mort et de résurrection. After eating cookies would be nice. Game on.
Warhead.

Caedes members a cave painting is nothing more than a really old billboard (advertising) telling you where to find water or meat, etc. A hand painted on a rock may tell you which way north is its a sign. If it is translated, documented and dated and you have recent picture of it and its old. Game on. A store sign maybe a totem pole those things travel all around the world its nothing more than a sign. May have to make categories to accommodate contemporary, ancient, prehistoric.

Submitting a photo that you have taken your self is of course the main idea but being able to validate the photo is also part of the challenge google is and good resource to do the Research.
The age of the billboard or sign and proving the age that is the challenge.
For example a barber shop sign you know its been hanging there for a long time. You do your research (Google) you find a picture of the sign dated 1910. You take picture of the sign yourself a recent photo. Post the link of the old image and upload your own. Now you have validated your picture for 100 years. You also come across a newspaper article that states that the store opened in 1905 and the owner proudly unveiled his sign. Post the link state the age which now is 105 years. The idea is simply to have fun. If it is a picture of something in your street were you live or a picture of the North pole:
As Les stated above I opened things up why did I do that because I think it would be nice if all Caedes members could take part I realized the last couple of weeks Caedes really gets around ( still the Newbee). There are people taking pictures in places I have never heard of. Going to places in the next couple of months I never dreamed of. I think it is away to have fun and be creative at the same time. Partly scavenger hunt, google hunt hopefully just good pictures and fun.
As to my own picture have been trying to validate it for that period. As of now its invalid I can not prove it was there all that time. But its not defeat its a new challenge because there plenty of good pictures out there.

Well my mouth is unglued eaten my humble pie had a good buuuuuurp! heard some strange rumbling sounds down below but that passed. Got out the camera thing went on Safari ( Big Game of course ) And as a true Big Game hunter I saw my prey and toke the shot.............. well don't want want to get into to much detail here for the faint of heart. Yep shot myself a 1898 Billboard one shot one kill the real ma Coy a turns out to be a listed monument. Got a good link on this one having it mounted will be uploading ( title of picture Life insurance ) if all goes well tricky stuff you know. But for sure it's going to look great in my gallery. Well do the ctrl klik thing and follow the blue brick road.
P.s the company is from 1895 the Billboard and building are from 1898 the company sold life insurance 2½ cents a week doesn't that kill you . If my math is correct is 112 years is the benchmark.
Somewere far behind me at ever increasing distants I hear some bla, bla something about shoelaces well thats about 112 years behind me. Game on. .......................Anyone want to play?
