I have noticed the last few days the number of people on the site has dropped?

558 users active today... as I write here.

There has been maintenance on the internet backbone that provides a large part of connectivity between Asia, Africa and Europe. Due to this most place weren't able to access international sites... that could have been a contributing factor.

Adding to KJ's post above, there was some site maintenance performed on Sunday (yesterday) as well, I believe.

And as a result, some visiting the site might not have been able to connect during that time as their internet connections to the site timed out.

Or ...

Experienced/saw the screen display for visitors stating something along the lines of;

'Site under Maintenance ... please be patient while the caedes gremlins do their work.'

The reason for the lower number of "users active today" is that we have redefined the meaning of "user" during the software update on Sunday. The number that is currently being reported is the number of people who are logged in with a registered username. Previously, we were also counting people who were not logged in.

I like the re-defining of 'users'....makes more sense to me :=)

I don't get it, I am almost one (1) hour logged in and still not being reported as a registered member.
I can understand that it takes some time between logged in and being registered, but for now it doesn't make sense to me.

Yesterday I looked at the users online, and it said there were 5 users... it counted 5 names, none of them mine (but one of them Twinkel, LOL). Maybe it's programmed to give all names but our own?

No, mine is showing for me.

I do recall Geri mentioning at some time that it takes 10-20 minutes for the system to acknowledge log on or log off. Maybe it was longer.

I believe you are correct Sam....our name doesn't show up immediately when we logon (at least that is what I remember :=) nor does it disappear right when we log off....we will see how bad my memory is...lol

Well, Steve ... the short answer is that I am not exactly sure how the numbers are arrived at now. Given the change instituted by *caedes recently and as mentioned in his post above.

I suppose the real question ... if I may ... is there a concern or issue on your part with respect to this subject matter of 'numbers'?

I see about making the list a bit more "responsive."

I am getting plenty of comment requests but no messages regarding my postings or general posts from friends on the site.
And as I mentioned before I have not seen anymore then 10 users active at anyone time? Did I read a previous post correctly that only actual paid members are being shown on line.

Only people who are logged in with a username are considered "users" now. I've changed it so that it will update the list every 60 seconds. It should now be more representative of who is actually using the site at any time.

Nothing will help unless you change the system for even more democratic LOL
