Full Screen Display

I use the latest version of Firefox. My monitor size is 1280 x 1024. Most of my images posted are 3000 x 2400. Caedes shows me the size to be used (shown in bold) for full screen display as 1408 x 1126 but never as 1280 x 1024. The size 1408 x 1126 is too large and the next size shown (1142 x 913) is too small. Can anyone tell me why?

The available resolutions displayed under any image for you, Raj ... are best approximations by the site's software.

And perhaps, more importantly ... are very dependent on the original image sizes.

To illustrate the point ... if an image is uploaded at 3000 X 250 ... I doubt that you would see a displayed resolution that 'fits' your monitor. Too much stretching and distortion would be the end result.

The software tries to minimize, or conversely, optimize the viewing experience. Some times, as noted above ... you, the viewer that is, end up with some 'odd' size choices of resolution.

Depending on your OS, it can 'stretch' things to fill your screen. Does it, of will it do a better job? Try it yourself:

Right click on an empty part of your desktop.

Choose or select (left-click); "Properties".

Then, go to the tab; "Desktop". In the bottom'ish right-hand side ... there are some options available to you.

Under "Selection" ... choose "Stretch" from the drop down menu.

/\ This all after having browsed and selecting the image you wish to use as your wallpaper or desktop.

And note, the instructions above are for Windows XP. Vista or 7 shouldn't be too dissimilar. However, don't quote me on that. Google is your friend, if need be.

Same applies, more or less, for your browsing experience.

The site only approximates and displays sizes based on your monitor. Not browser dependent, in other words.

3000 X 2400.

Scaling things down, there is no exact whole number linear correlation.

I.e. 3000/1024 = 2.9296875

So, things get approximated for optimization on the viewing end of things.

Not, for monitor sizes or resolutions.

Thanks Les - The ratio of my monitor is 1:0.8 (3000:2400). I am using vista service pack 2. I know the stretch option from XP but here I'll have to google and find out. When I take an image from my computer it shows a perfect full screen display, also as desktop. I also notice that the firefox full display (Control +0) does not correspond to the windows full display. Shall keep trying.

If the original image is close to the same aspect ratio (width/height) as your screen, then the site will make one of the available image sizes exactly the same size as your screen. However, the site can only know your screen size through a javascript that sets a "cookie" containing the size. If you don't have javascript or you have rejected the cookie, then the site only offers the default range of image sizes.

Thanks for asking.

Thanks Caedes - Javascript is permanently enabled for Caedes and also a cookie of caedes.net is there on the list of accepted cookies.

Maybe try clearing the cache?

I have tried with Internet Explorer 8. Then the ideal resolution shown in bold is 1280 x 1024 but when I click on that the image is one step too large. (Control -) brings it to normal as in Firefox. It is probably something to do with Vista, I suppose.
