To spring clean or not. That is the question.

I put this topic up as it seems to have hijacked the art council thread so here is a seperate thread to make long posts on about spring cleaning.

Personally I do. I try to keep my images down to around 5 pages. The rationale is as follows. The ones that get left are my best ones, at least the ones I consider my best. Having a limited number keeps me on my toes and makes me think about anything I post. It also means that anyone looking at my galeries does not have to plough through a load of images to find the odd good one. After all, the purpose of this site is to get my images seen, not lost in the dross.

I have a few slots to post new stuff in, but they may get removed even before they get archived if I don't think they are going anywhere. Images are judged on the number of downloads, number of favourites and whether or not they have been permed.

Well, I have been daunted at times when I've looked at a member's gallery and seen 20+ pages. On the other hand, my Caedes folder and screensaver would be much poorer if this gallery were kept at 5 pages.
I haven't filled up the first page of mine yet, so probably won't be spring cleaning any time soon.
There are always new people coming to the site you know, just because an image has been around for a while doesn't mean it can't be enjoyed by anyone else. That's what people come for, and what keeps them coming back. At least that's the way it was for me.
So unless server space is an issue or you have images that you're really embarrassed about, just be discriminating on the front end and don't "publish" anything you don't want to be available long-term.

I don't just remove pictures because they are old, but because they lack quality. Obviously that gallery has a lot of outstanding images. mine doesn't, just some good ones. the poor ones go and that makes me try harder as a photographer.

Just weeded my garden. Removed 46 images (20% of my Caedes gallery) without feeling a loss and am now down to, yes, 5 pages. Thanks, Chris!!!

I recently removed a couple dozen images from my gallery, but none were ones that had been placed in someone else's favorites folder. Another Cadesian had told me (some time ago) that if an image was removed from a gallery, anyone having selected it as a favorite would no longer see it in their favorites folder, rather like being a linked image.

The number of images sometimes can sneak up on us :)
I just removed 145 from my gallery and will do more when I get time.
It is a good feeling to Spring clean :)
