well, how much do you wunt to spend?
macro i would get the 100mm canon 2.8USM.
telephoto if i had absalutly stacks of mony iwould go for the 400mm L.
wide angle, i like the sound of the 17-45mmL , or the sigma 15-sumthing2.8
the above will be very expensive.
medium budget i would get the 100mm macro still The Sigma 50-500mm Ex HSM apo.
i would keep the kit lens because it is actually a nice lense.
very cheap budget i would get the sigma macroapo2 70-300mm it is exelent, af is a bit slow, but it is sharp, and the macro also goes to 1:2which means that you dont need a macro lens right away... and of course, keep the kit. i am on the super tite budget so i got that, and am very happy with it, and has produced very pleasing results.
the 50mm1.8 has a huge amount of praise too, although i do not have it, it is ment to be verygood especialy for lowlight, and its Extremely cheap.

A middle of the road telephoto that's sharp would be the Canon 70-200 f/4L. It's around $750 and performs great, just as good as its $2,000 counterpart, the 70-200 f/2.8L. Long, fast, sharp glass comes at a premium price, but it more than worth it.
