What or who determines what images become a Top New Image. If it is based on the C-index, then there is some flaws in the selection process. I've had images with higher C-indexes than those on the list and they seem to be passed over and lost in the galleries.

I just wanted to point out that I've re-configured the list of top new images on the main page. It used to pick images uploaded in the last 2 weeks. Now it only picks images from the last 4 days. This should allow more images to appear there and avoid a situation where an image gets 1500 page views in a week.

OK....the things which contribute to the c-index are the rating (i.e. the average vote), the ratio of downloads to views (i.e. of fullscreen views to views of the image page with the "large thumbnail") , and the number of people (up to a max of 10 if I remember right) who've added it to their Favourites. The complicated maths is designed to balance all these aspects to give a fair final figure which represents an image's popularity as well as the score which those who take the time to vote think it merits. How does that sound....? ;-)
sounds interesting. I'm just trying to figure out why some of my images seem to be welded to the bottom of the c-index ratings...and working on bumping them up.
