"Lonely" images

I was just wondering.. would it be possible to have, as other sites do, a link, a thread, or whatever, of images that get bypassed?

Sometimes the member is new, sometimes the theme might not be the most popular, or whatever, but some images seem to get overlooked, and others, seem to get a deluge of comments, downloads, etc. I know we have the "Comment Request" feature, but it's kind of a random, one-shot deal.

Maybe with this new feature, more attention could be funneled toward these other images. Don't like something? Ok, great. Stop by, and constructively state why.

Whaddya think?

Your idea reminds me of something on Deviant Art... someone was posting a regular 'under 40' column, drawing attention to various images he/she saw which had fewer than 40 comments or 'faves' (if I remember right... it's a while since I was doing anything around dA. It feels too large and impersonal compared to here). One of mine was featured on the column once. ;-) So of course I approved! I have the badge (or the dA stamp).

The thing about that feature, though, was that you didn't just have a list of links -- you had thumbnails to look through, so you could see right away if there was something you might be interested in. I have to admit those features with lots of thumbnails made me feel like a magpie, flying about collecting treasure but not staying in one place for very long. I still have various dA wallpapers and I couldn't tell you who made them just by looking at them... but if it's a Caedes.net wallpaper, I'm more likely to know. Mum keeps looming over my shoulder, asking, "who did that one?" "Erm.... Jungle George." ;-)

you'd think she'd know a croc's head disn't get on a chicken's body by itself ;-)

but I digress...

Well, no feature is perfect. But if we had some way of getting some more attention to the less-visited images, those that post them might gain from the experience. Hey, if someone posts a lousy (I'm just using the adjective to make a point, people) image, and it's ignored, maybe they'll get discouraged and leave. Take the same image, and have a few people offer pointers on how it could be better, or how to create an altogether different image that..isn't lousy, well hey, they might just turn into a better artist/photographer, etc.

Or at the very least, they won't feel like outsiders.

And no, that doesn't mean lie to them and say it's a great shot when it isn't. Then they'll just keep on making lousy images.

ok, next?

I think you've make a good suggestion, Rob, especially for new members' submissions that may get overlooked, even with the 'Comment Request' prompt.

Rather than set up a sub-heading for 'Orphans' (or whatever title may be appropriate) perhaps it would help to make new artists aware of THIS THREAD, giving them the opportunity to see their image enhanced by more experienced members?
