Oh, oh ... people are talking about us behind our backs!!

talkphotography.co.uk - "Caedes??"

The opening post to the discussion thread linked to above:

"I dont get it, is it just hyped up flickr, or is it some weird, masonic, scientology type clan thing.

My father in-law (who is a tog of 30 years, is good friends with the founder of caedes and one of the 50 'premium members) tried to explain to me what it was and what it does, but i just couldnt grasp what the actual point of it was.

I've been on the site and its all " Caedes Cadre, Aediles, Praetor, Consul, Praetor Maximus...." And "Art council"... yet looking on the top of the website, you'd think it was just a large collection of desktop wallpapers.

What ever that place is, i just dont get it, and even if someone explains it to me, i still think i wont get it.

Ohwell, rant over."

Grab a cuppa, have a read and a laugh or three. :o)

Kind of funny to see what "outsiders" think about the site, and it's various quirks, most of which "we" take in stride.

They make an interesting point about the fact that we have too much spare time. Unlike discussion board members who scroll through web pages looking for spelling mistakes :-P (pretty sure "edumacation" was a joke, anyway...)

It is funny, though, that someone could be confused by a site that really seems pretty straight forward to me... I'd have thought the header on the home page makes it pretty clear?? I sorta get the impression this might just be a group of people who just enjoy finding things they can belittle *shrugs*

Do we actually have any "HKotDA"s or "OWotGS"s? I don't recall seeing any mention outside of the FAQ page.

Some... *ahem* ;-)

It's really just a tongue in cheek "title" given to contest winners and members who have contributed to the site in some way.

Now, wouldn't this discussion thread be something for the talkphotography peeps to run across?

"Talk Photography" - Misnomer Of The Year award.

Being of little brain it took me some time to work out what a 'tog' is, (the one of 30 years experience.) Still not sure. In 'my day' togs were something one wore to go for a swim.

Does it mean photographer?

(I know there will be some who will give another meaning to my TOG title)

A TOG stems from listeners of BBS Radio 2's Terry Wogen Show, who referred to themselves as Terry's Old Geezers (TOG). More generally someone of around 50-70 who refuses to act their age.

Me?

I am a T.O.G.G.E.R..

Which, as I understand it, has it roots in the English vernacular; 'tosser'.

Just spelled slightly different and kind of sideways.

I like that - and it fits the bill for me, but I think perhaps only males enter geezerhood so I will be a Geezerette.

Thanks for the link Les. I had a few laughs reading that discussion. I wonder who is the father in-law who is my good friend?

It seems you can limit the list to your good friends who live in the UK? That should make it fairly easy.

"I think it is uncle Antonio's friend. Remember that guy at the family picnic that brought the slab of prosciutto?", replied his inner imp.

Adey's TOG dad-in-law should be easier to find if the "50 'premium' members" could please come forward :)
