Personally I would probably get everything there except the Lowepro thing, I'm not sure what that is. Understand that I am not familiar with this particular camera, but for both my digitals I have rechargable lithium batteries and I would never want to use anything that just used normal store bought batteries, they just don't last long enough... they might even cost more in the long run. But it's simply too frustrating to have a battery die on you just when you're wanting to use the camera.

A USB cable is also essential as far as I'm concerned. That's how you download your photos onto the computer, unless you know another way that I'm not familiar with. The AV cable allows you to display the photos on your camera by plugging it into a TV. Personally I find this a better way to share your pics with family ad friends than having them gather around the computer screen. So as I said, personally I would get them all. If you shop around I would imagine you could find a package that included most of them for a discounted price. When I bought both my Canon I didn't have to specify any of those items, I assumed they werejust a part of the standard package but in hindsight it was probably a "special deal". Good luck with your purchase anyway.

Wow, I don't know what store that is, but I'd say they're trying to gouge you. As far as I know, any new, sealed Canon will come with the USB and AV cable. In the case of the G6, it should also come with one Canon branded rechargeable battery and a charger.

I would recommend getting a spare battery, but two are listed. One is Canon-branded at $135.00 and one is Inca-branded (potentially lower-quality?) at $79.00. So pick one of these. It's possible you'd want the Canon CA-560, but only if you plan to plug the camera into the wall for some reason. I, personally, wouldn't, especially if you have a spare battery (one should always be charged/charging). Lowepro is a camera bag manufacturer, and make good bags, so far as I know. You may want one, you may prefer to pick one up locally (many retailers have them, and you can tailor the bag more to what you want, for size/style).

So from that entire list, I'd say pick one battery to have as a spare. The AC adaptor is your choice, the bag is your choice. The cables *should* be in the camera box, if they aren't, then this is a super shady retailer. All in all, the prices you quoted seem quite high. Is this a US retailer in US dollars? Judging by thier hard sell of "accessories" that are overpriced and should be included, I'd consider looking for another merchant.

Actually now I think about it, it's probably just one of those sites that lists anything it's search engine can find that is associated with the camera. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the items are already included in the price of the camera.

Searching for the text " To help improve upon your purchase", I came to camerastore.com.au. As Sam said, it looks like they just recommend everything that can be used with the camera, and I assume the prices are more in line being in AUD.

Anyway, to stress the point, you should be able to purchase the camera and immediately use it (well, after charging the battery) without any other purchase. It should come with the two mentioned cables, a battery, a battery charger, and a (small) memory card. You will almost certainly want/need a larger memory card and a spare battery. All the other stuff, you may find useful, but isn't necessary.

Maybe online. If you were to buy your Canon at best buy you would have to buy cables , chargers, and other accessories separately. But the sales associate would let you know of the extra supplies you needed before you left the store.

"What's in the box"
This won't change regardless of where you purchase the camera, be it Best Buy, Circuit City, Amazon, camerastore.com.au, or Bob's Big House O' Camera Stuff. The only reason the box wouldn't include everything it leaves the Canon factory with is if it's a used/return. Even refurbs should be in "like new" condition, with everything from the original box.

I like the fact that you get the wireless controller as standard with that camera.
