Minor code bug on Caedes?

I've noticed the past couple nights that when I thank someone for a comment, then check mark the notification and click the "processed checked" button to clear it...

1) I get taken back to the page of the person who commented and who I just thanked,
2) the notification is not clearing

Seems like the expected behavior is that the notification I have checked would just clear and I would remain on the notification page. I wonder if others are seeing the same behavior or if possibly it is something in my browser.

I've not experienced this. Normally you would remain on the subscription page or go to the index page if all subscriptions were cleared.

I think that this is a side effect of the way the code decides what page to send you 'back' to. Most browsers set a variable that tells the server what the last visited ('REFERER') page was, but if it doesn't I've also saved that page into a cookie (as a backup). My guess is that if your browser doesn't properly send out the REFERER variable AND you visit a different page in between checking your subscriptions, then the situation that you describe would happen. Basically, the only other option would be to send you to the main page of the site.

I'm not so sure about the second problem though. Do you mean that the notification never clears, or just in that one instance?

Well, whatever "it" was, the site is behaving normally tonight. No changes on my end in past 24 hours (see below). I wasn't going to other pages between leaving a comment and "processing checked". On the second "problem", you are correct, the notification did not clear when I clicked on "process checked", instead it kicked me back to the page I had just come from (the one on which I left a "thank you"). When I then navigated to the Caedes home page, my subscription count had not decremented.

What I found later was that if I left the site and returned, things were back in "balance". In other words, my subscription count on the home page had decremented, and the subscription notification had cleared.

If you haven't done any code changes recently, chances are the issue is on my end. I'm testing remote access SW called TRAC for work, and this loads client code hooked into IE. Starting Monday I went through two downloads of the TRAC client and one IE patch from Microsoft in a couple of nights.

If I see the Caedes site behave that way again while I'm using IE, I'll come back to the site through Firefox and see if it repeats. If it does, I'll let you know.

In hat case it sounds like it might have been a simple cache issue. Sorry to bore you with the unnessesary technical jargon. =)

Ahhh, hardly a problem. Been messing with PCs since they were invented, but haven't taken time in the past 10 years to learn anything about web site / server design. Wish I knew a bit more.
