What do you use as a walkaround lens for hiking/travel/etc?
I was using a Canon 35mm f/2 because it was lightweight (6oz!) and fast, but I found it was not quite wide enough at times on my crop sensor camera.
For Christmas, I got a Tokina 20-35 f/2.8 which should give me that notch more width I wanted but is built like a tank (20ish oz!). I'll be curious to see how it works for me when I have to carry it around all afternoon. Hopefully, it won't be a problem because I've been pleased with the results from it so far.
Hi Rebecca, in my online wanderings, I've seen some great images from the 17-40/4 when paired with the 7d and a few xxD series cameras. I believe Ken Rockwell gave the lens you're using high marks for optics.
Hi Rebecca - when I switched from the Canon 18-55mm (kit lens) to the EFS 17-85mm it felt quite heavy by comnparison - but now I do not notice it and use it almost all the time.
Occassionaly I notice a slight bit of barrel distortion but overall I am very pleased with it.
My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
