Tribute to all who have fought...

I've been thinking about the war in Iraq AND other wars that have protected our freedom... I was thinking y not make a page contributed to all the soldiers, politicians and even civilians in tragic wars and people who faced injustice through out history. Let's just thank those who were in tragic events such as 9/11....

Don't forget that this is a site accessible to the whole world. Such a page can maybe shock certain members. I am not sure that a patriotic american photo will be appreciated by everyone...
And... what will you think if you receive photos of Mujaheddeen in action?

I tend to agree, that the idea might not be that great or suitable for a global audience. Sombody's hero, might be another man's enemy.

Having second thoughts...

Maybe not such a good idea after all. We shouldn't allow this site to become politicized. Having just gone through a very messy anti-American campaign on photo.net, I know first-hand how contentious this can be.

Do you really think that would be suitable for a wallpaper site?

I tend to disagree, but that's just my opinion.

I agree that the site should not really be politicised. Also (and I don't want to come across too liberal here) I am not really into all this jingoistic stuff. Commemoration is great, but it's too easy to step across the line and suddenly it's all flag-waving patriotism and we're-right-and-you're-wrong mentality. Personally I shy away from that stuff because no matter how well-intentioned it is, there is something unsettlingly martial about it.

To go back to the original post: "I've been thinking about the war in Iraq AND other wars that have protected our freedom...". As someone with a degree in politics and philosophy (sorry, not implying that my opinion is more valid, just that I have a background in the subject area) I have to say that the war in Iraq has nothing to do with protecting anyone's freedom that I am aware of. Anyway, let's not get into a political discussion...

One of the reasons I like this site is because it is 'neutral'. I don't think we should spoil that.

I wouldn't necessarily agree that the SITE is neutral... people can discuss whatever they like in the "other" forum, and anyone who wants to join in can, and those who don't want to get involved don't; there have been plenty of posts based around religion, for example. BUT I think it may be a good idea to keep this sort of thing seperate from the galleries, which I agree are generally "neutral"... anyway I will stop now, otherwise this discussion will belong in the "other" galleries itself...

I don't think the idea is stupid... in principal it is sound. But unfortunately I think there are people out there who would take advantage

Alright I see. But don't the moderators check the pictures firsthand then put it online?
