I am wondering if the complaints function could be upgraded to include user names... as far as I know there is no way to bring attention to inappropriate user names at the moment. I only see these occasionally, but there is one up in the "online" list at the moment which obviously has the single goal of offending everyone else who is using the site. I am not a person who is easily upset, but it does annoy me when people deliberately use foul language for no other reason than to get a reaction... there are no moderators online right now, but at least this person could be removed from the member base when they were...

I have to agree, I am no prude, but you have to draw the line somewhere, and the name I saw today was totally in bad taste.

Maybe have a filter to censor certain words? I don't know... I didn't see what you guys are talking about, but there have been some...

I think the best solution in that case would be a PM to Caedes. The mods have no power to change user's names sitewide.

Filters could be very funny... I know that some sites have filters set up that automatically change vulgar words into something completely innocuous. Unfortunately, this might just lead to users being more creative in their vulgarities.

Frankly I wouldn't care to repeat some of the names I have seen, even if it was only to be seen by one person...

It would probably be a good idea to add a 'complain' button to every user's profile page. That way you could complain about icons, usernames, everything.

what would complaining really do? just ask the person to chg the icon, name... everything? Is that ALL it would do?

The complain button would notify a moderator about it, then the moderator would look into it.

And if they won’t change it, the "magic finger of death" will happen over their account and smite them out of existence!!!!!!

I actually have some comments on the complaint system, but more from the other side... I'll put them on the dev site, but quickly, I think that if we have all these potential places to complain, there needs to be some sort of input for the complainant to explain why they're complaining. Oftentimes a complaint comes in, and I have no idea what the problem is.
