My Camera :(

Yesterday was a sad day for me. I just have to vent by telling this story.

I was on a boat, tied up at a dock. I offered my camera to my friend to take a few pictures, so from the boat she was on the dock and I handed it too her. During this I was thinking "damn, I hope it doesn't fall in the water"! So She got it, went and took some photos, everything was good. So she comes back down the dock, I'm still on the boat, she goes to hand it back to me... What happens...just what I hoped wouldn't, she didn't have the strap on and was holding the camera with a few fingers, not to mention a coffee in the other hand. So my precious camera went into the water between the dock and the boat...sunk like a rock to the bottom of the harbor! We ended up retrieving it,...15 minutes later.

I will say it was a funny situation and I wasn't mad. I've herd she was a "klutz" before, but just never believed it. Crap Happens! The funnier part was just as she was handing it to me she asked me "how much was it and where did I get it?", then the next words out of her mouth "REALLY, How much was it?" That's where the hilarity of the situation took over!

So I will be getting a new camera in about 2 weeks, and she is down $275 bucks! But the best part was, she bought a second one for herself since she loved mine so much!

(*makes mental note never to let casperkid004's friend handle camera*)

Thanks for the headsup?

:oP

/\ Kidding, kidding.

At least you can see the humour in what happened unfortunately.

And out of curiosity..

"dropped camera in water"

And from the first hit/discussion forum?

"Here is what I recommend;Depending on how old it is.If it's less than 30 days old...Let it dry out, call the manufacturer, tell them it stopped working. If they find NO water in it.Chances are good you'll get a replacement. If they find water....Well.You know."

Lol.

In a nutshell; remove battery as soon as possible ... remove memory card ... separate parts ... let air dry, or better yet.. in a room with a dehumidifier, over several days.. might provide a chance of resurrecting use?

The above mentioned for future reference.

:oP

/\ Yes. I am kidding, again (aside from the instructional part).

Justin, I love to hear camera stories, Thank You for sharing. I have a camera story of my own, with humor in what happened.

Years ago, I desperately wanted to buy a new camera, but I wanted to do it cheaply. So I went to Ebay, and patiently stalked the cameras for sale page, until I found the one I just could not live without. I bid on the camera, and by gosh I won the auction. I was a happy camper. Back in those days Paypal was not invented yet, so as quickly as I could, I rushed to the store and purchased a money order to pay for my item. What a lucky fella I was, Soon I will be getting a new camera, or so I thought. I never received the item. You can bet your smoochie! there was some verbal exchange by way of email between the seller and myself. It was all for nothing, because thats what I got, nothing. That Happy Camper feeling soon left me with a Iv been had feeling. The worst part was, I had to tell my wife what happened. Life in our household was not so happy for a few days.

I know what you are thinking, why didnt I file a complaint with Ebay? I did. But when the scammer who uses a fake address just disappears, there is not much you can do. Ebay did help me to file a police report in the last known location. I though "well its over, and I learned a good lesson".

As the years went by I had forgotten all about the incident, until I received a letter from the USA Justice Department. When you receive mail from them, its stressful to decide if you should have a cup of coffee or an adult beverage before opening the envelope. I cannot reveal all the details, but a very polite letter informing me that I was a VICTIM of a Federal Crime. I was given a contact PIN to use should I ever need counseling or information about my case. I had to wait till Monday morning to call the Justice Dept and ask questions about the letter....are you ready for this! ...at 61 yrs of age I was told I was a Victim of Child Pornography. I told the lady this had to be a mistake, and maybe someone else was the victim and they were offering help to the wrong person. Very politely the lady said she would look into the details, and call me back with the information.

I got a call back the next day, and was told that I was considered a victim because my name was on the computer of the defendant, who originally was to be charged with Mail Fraud for selling factious items on Ebay and receiving payment thru the mail, but when they confiscated his computer they found Child Pornography and charged him with that. She assured me they would correct the oversight.

Once again I had to tell my wife what happened. Her jaw dropped to the floor when I let her read the letter. Her eyes were wider than a hot air balloon when I told her the details. She then asked me what does it all mean, so like a smart azzed husband, I looked at her and said "honey, I now have proof from the government, that I never grew up"

Thats my camera story. You just never know what adventures a camera will provide you. What did I learn from all this? You can always get a new camera, but, When your wife is serious, DONT be a smart azz.
