I am not too sure if this is the right place for this question but I am trying to do my first upload but it just stays at the upload screen and never goes. What am i doing wrong? It is a PNG and I made it 3200 pixles high and 2400 wide.

Should be fine, width and height wise.

As the stated limits are 3200 pixels and under;

"Please upload the largest possible version of the image (but under 3200 pixels in width and height).." (<--- From the "Image Upload" page itself.)

What is the total size of the file?

There is no actual restriction, however, most find that if the file is over 10 MB ... usually are met with being timed out.

So..

As a suggestion, resize/resample your image down some?

I recall that sometimes I have somehow changed the extension of a file when I have saved in photoshop but still saved it in PSD format. Bit of a long shot but maybe that's what happened...

Edit: I remember how it happens now, when I overwrite an existing PNG file (for example) but forget to change the file type in the photoshop save window. It will keep the extension PNG but the file will actually be in PSD format and you can't upload those.

Wellll.. since you asked ...

Given that most monitors these days are in a 16:10 screen aspect ratio, or in other words, 1920 X 1200 pixels ... I would go with that. In short, most popular or soon to be.

As it is getting increasingly more difficult to find the larger real estate size of monitors at 1920 X 1280.

You can.. upload/post a larger or higher resolution size in some multiple of, but ... then, there is the concern of copyright infringement. Given that a larger resolution image will in all likelihood be more popular amongst 'rippers'.

Although.. it is suggested to post a larger resolution size and allow the site to produce the smaller ones. I think/feel that 1920 X 1200 is more than sufficient on the notes of image quality. And will cover most member's and visitor's desktop needs.

Your stated image size of 3200 X 2400 is in a 4:3 screen aspect ratio. The more common size, once resampled/re-sized down would be that of 1600 X 1200 pixels. Which is fine, too.

I am wondering if by your words; "3200 by 2400 got me some weird sizes with the scaling down" might be a result of your own monitor's display?

As the site detects 'your' monitor/screen size.. and then, displays the relative sizes/options available to 'you'.
