Hi Steve - I bought a Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM AutoFocus Super Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Canon EOS Cameras. I bout it new on Ebay, from a dealer with 100% feedback rating. I also purchased it at a bargain price. How cool is that I thought. When it arrived, I realized I received a bonus,. . .it rattled. I called Sigma, they told me that as long as it worked, not to worry about it. If it ever did not perform, they would repair it under warranty, as long as I pay the S&H. I have not taken many pics with it. But what I do take turns out very well. the only thing I have to complain about is the slight rattle when I shake the lens. Isn't that weird, how many people go around shaking their lens. Well now you know of at least one person who does. Macro is excellent, I swear I get lots closer than 8 inches, and with an lens adapter I have gotten as close as 1 inch, smooth elements slide, aspherical element brings out excellent results with almost no distortion. Focus is quick and quiet and spot on. Expensive little critter. I would use it a lot more, except for one thing. . .that darn rattle.Would I buy another one? Sure! My only comment is to buy one with no rattle. I am sure they build em that way.

ive got the standard one, and most of the pics on my gallery were taken with it, a thoroghly excellent lens, however, i find that at the max and min lengths, it back focuses a little, could be just my one, needing calibration, however, an excellent all round lens.

I bought the lens in the states four weeks ago now, and boy it has been through the wars already, I banged it against a door frame and also against a table while on holiday. I have taken well over a 1000 shots and it has not let me down, the sharpness and overall quality is very very good.

Steve - I am so happy to hear that your lens really lived up to your expectations. If mine works very well with a rattle, then your should work excellent without one. Imagine all the nature shots you can take with a quiet lens. Do you hear that rattling noise in the background? Thats me scolding my lens "why cant you be like all the rest of your family....quiet" Oh good grief ! some lenses never listen". . . enjoy your new toy.
