When does art become wallpaper?

Caedes is a wallpaper site, but what IS a good wallpaper? I must confess that with most of my images I just try and create a good image (hopefully!) not a good wallpaper.

Should a good wallpaper have space at the sides for the desktop icons? (personally it doesn't bother me). Some people like simple images - do too much colours and too many filters distract users when they view their desktop?

I think a lot of the images on this site are very high quality and I would say that they were 'art'. However, this doesn't necessarily make a good wallpaper. I really like this site precisely because it isn't just full of typical wallpaper images. What do you think?

Yes. Agree. For me, I often choose 'space' photos for wallpapers. Because they are simple and spectacular... Thanks Nasa and Crusader ;-)
But some pictures like 'grasses' of Morat (and others) are 'art' AND superb wallpapers...

There was a similar discussion to this a little while back called "when is a wallpaper not a wallpaper", CaptainHero it may help answer some of your questions if you want to have a look.
