I would hope that the different sizes of wallpaper available for your images in the computer section are in fact re-renders with the new size, but "Flourescence" by D.B. for example makes me ask the question. Are they?

REALLY enjoy the site, have spend HOURS here so far today! :)

When I render an image I usually just render one at 1600x1200 and then downsample that images for the other resolutions. This is the same thing the 3D render engine does to anti-alias the image.

The DB images on the other hand were originally only 1152x864, so the 1280x1024 image had to be enlarged (not the best solution I know). I originally got these images from the free sample gallery at DB, so 1152x864 is the largest size available.

So I guess your question was justified, however the DB images are the only ones which have a lower quality do to enlarging. Everything else started out much larger.

The DB pics were the ones I was noticing the 'enlargement artifacts' on. I have no problems whatsoever with a resample to a smaller size from 1600x1200 though. Thanks for the information, and the great wallpaper site. I can't wait to check out the fractal section now. I used to toy with Fractint back in the 386-486 days and I am eager to have a look at the 'state of the art'.

I concidering getting rid of all the DB images for that reason plus because I don't really like them much anymore. I'd be interested to hear what you have to say about the fractals though. ;-)

More and more people are using larger monitors, 18" TFT, 19-21 and even 22" CRT's. I always used a 1280*1024 resolution on my 17" Monitor (yes I like small and sharp). Thats why I always loved this site, it has quality high resolution images. recently I upgraded to a 19" Flatscreen CRT, 1600*1200 rocks (higher too). Suggestion here is, why not upload these 1600*1200 images here (storage space?), for us high-rez lovers :)

Adding 1600x1200 is the next large upgrade I'll be doing to the site. I already have many of the wallpapers in that format, I just have to upload them all. ;-)

The DB images are a bit dated, but a few of them still manage to startle with their realism. I remember finding their site way back and just being blown away but that was then, this is now. On another note I really loved some of the fractals!! In fact, I went right over and downloaded the trial version of Ultrafractal and have been diving into the mandelbrot quite a bit. I'd forgotten just how much fun that was! Honestly, though, I don't much care for most of Skinners overlays. I can't believe I just said that because the man is a GENUIS. I guess I just like the purity of the one formula fractal.

Most of the Skinner overlay fractal were made before many computers could even display many colors, so they had their time so to speak. Back then Im sure they would have blown most people away. I'm glad you found Ultrafractal though, I too enjoy fractal 'surfing' on occasion. :-)
