Good morning
My image "Sunrise 24 February 2005" went into the permanent galleries about the 21st March. Last night, it had vanished entirely from the site. I don't have a problem with my images being deleted as a rule (there is plenty of warning given at the top of the new images galleries), but was curious if this would be normal in the case of such a brief appearance in its new home.
Enjoy your day

I was doing some 'house cleaning' two nights ago, but only from the older pages of the New Images gallery ( never the perms). I don't recall this image at all. A score of 66 is on the low end for inclusion into the permanent galleries, but if none of the other mods objects I'll restore the image into sunrise/set.

Good morning Tracy
No, I'm not too worried about it being restored. I was actually very surprised to see that one make it there, and am quite happy to accept that it made it there in error - these things do happen :)

I was the one that went through the sunset galleries and shaved a couple of them off that were at the bottom of the pile. Romane, that image doesn't do your talents justice, it looks out of place in your amazingly interesting and professional looking gallery, IMHO.

Good morning Tom

First, many thanks for your uplifting and generous comments regarding my gallery and my talents. I am both flattered and humbled.

As regards the sunrise image being deleted, I don't have a problem with it vanishing. As I said above, this was one that I was surprised to see make it to the permanent galleries. Only reason that I made a comment is that it had just been "promoted" and then it vanished - had it been still in the new images my curiosity would not have been piqued.. I sent a PM to Tracy earlier today after it was restored basically saying that if it should not be there, then I have no problem with it vanishing. I sent a PM to Tracy this morning (my time) after the image had been restored basically saying the same thing.

There has been an advantage to the image being deleted - I had wondered how was going to tell when an image had been deleted by the site (whether auto or by an image mod), and so was waiting for one to go so could find out - there are a couple in my gallery that need to go. Now I know, do not need to wait any longer and can delete those poorer images tonight. And if you have not already beaten me to it, the sunrise one will be one of them <grinning>

Enjoy your day

Images currently remain in the "New" gallery for about 3 months before they are automatically deleted. The easy way to tell when your images will probably disappear is to sort the "New" gallery by date and go to the last page. You will see that at the moment, the oldest images were uploaded at the beginning of January. So logically, if you uploaded an image on the 10th, it will be removed in about 10 days (unless of course it has been moved to a permenant gallery). Hope this makes it clearer for you.

hmmm, related to this....I've just noticed that Tapestry, which was added to the permanent galleries the other day has apparently disappeared. I don't know if it is a glitch or perhaps it wasn't good enough in the end. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Andrew: 'Tapestry' was uploaded 03/28. The Mods must wait 2 or 3 weeks before to move a new image trough the permanent galleries.

Tapestry....it was a greyish brown image....looked a little like a weaving kind of thing. Anyhow, it was one of my oldest images....then it got put into a gallery which I can't remember the name of. Which was cool. Then a couple of days later it was removed totally from my images.

Actually your oldest picture (Orbital Scrutiny) was uploaded 01/04/05. Just 3 months ago.
Probably your 'Tapestry' stayed in the 'New Images' gallery and was deleted after 3 months, like Samatar said above... Can't see other explanations.

nope sorry...it was taken out of new images...it went into abstracts (possibly) or fractals (again a possibility) I know this because I did a daft post on it thanking people and offering a round of drinks. I had been surprised it had been chosen to stay. I can't remember when it was uploaded, but it was before January.

Judging from your own comments it doesn't sound like the image was of very high quality. I'd guess it was removed for that reason.

*flurbles....* It must have been good enough to be moved, rather than just deleted. Oh well, never mind....I will tweak it and repost at some point. Thanks for the helpful info.
