Hi, I;ve been using two of my own images from here on my Xanga. Uhh.. did I need to ask permission to use them? I mean they are my images so... ...because on the site instead of the images tehre are, now, signs that say "the image that is supposed to be here is from Caedes.net" and then it says "The chinchilias are coming to get you" ...uhh are chinchilias out to get me? ...

The website protects itself against people who "hotlink" the images from other websites. The way it tells if you are coming from a website other than caedes.net is by checking the HTTP_REFERER HTTP header when your browser requests a page. If this header indicates that the images is being linked from a website other than caedes.net then the website will reject the request. If you see wierd images or no images at all from the site then that means that you probably have a firewall program running on your computer that is modifying the HTTP_REFERER header when your computer requests a webpage. In order for the website to work correctly you will need to turn off this feature or change the firewall setting to only delete the HTTP_REFERER header instead of modifying it. Changing this setting will have a negligible impact on your computer's security. Firewalls which can cause this problem include Norton Personal Firewall. You can test your browser to see if it is sending the correct header by going to this page.
what about linking a caedes image on another site? say i wanted to link one of my images for a background.. would that do the same thing as far as hotlinking? (i wouldnt need to do so, just curious as to what would happen)
Basically, Sean, you do not need to ask permission from yourself to use your images, but you are not allowed to use the copies caedes.net stores. You'll need to find some hosting for the images you wish to use on xanga, upload them and hotlink them from there. Caedes doesn't allow hotlinking to the images stored here because it's often for unauthorized purposes (ie, someone using your images for their blog, without asking), costs the site money in bandwidth, and messes with the statistics (download counts).
oh well, ok. Thank you. .. I will take those images off then.. its really not that big enough of a deal for me to do all that with the Firewall and stuff. so ok.
