Inspired by something similar elsewhere, I thought I'd encourage people to post their one best, not yet posted, image from 2011 (and only 2011!). It could maybe get the creative juices stirring again for some, inspire others, and certainly be a big win for everyone at the site.
Okay. Well, I guess links to something already posted is fine. I was trying to avoid the possibility of someone posting "just anything" from their gallery.
Still, I was ultimately lookIng to highlight one's best, so chronology is secondary to quality.
I am sure others have stuff worth posting. I didn't generate much this year, that is all I meant. You want my best image of 2011? That is a tough call. Probably the last one I posted, The Dolls House, even if others find it too dark, at least it is one of my best CGI works.
I tend to keep the best (or the ones I'm most attached to, which isn't at all the same thing) off the internet... which complicates matters. :-) Though I think I've been less mean over the last year. I don't know if I know what's my best, any more, but it might be interesting to look... there were quite a few I meant to post but never got round to.
Tootles, you may very well be my "target audience". I completely get both points you've made. The difference between best and favorite is one I struggle with too. And not posting your best stuff online... seems to be a trend.
Still, I thought I'd sort of encourage people to dig a little deeper.
Chris, that's certainly a very thought provoking image. You've taken it beyond its original "message" while keeping to the same "story line". Nicely done.
Nice idea, Rob, but nothing new or great from me at present so will draw upon something currently in my gallery...not my most popular image either but one I am especially fond of as it involved learning something new, the light on white techniques...Plain & Simple
Pat, that's a great image. I really love the whitewash feel of that, and it's definitely a sample of "taking it up a notch" , which is the spirit of this thread. Nice!
OK I'll play. I think I held this one back to avoid posting too much of the same subject. I promise if this one gets promoted to the perms I'll voluntarily take one of the others out. :) Steppin Out
People aren't going to remember the things you do. They're going to remember how you made people feel. Be kind, gracious, and appreciative. Dan Winters - Photographer.
I suppose I should be submitting an entry myself. Here, I had to overlook personal favorites, shots that "fell in my lap", or that could be credited more to my camera and/or lens than my own ability. Then, I included only shots that told a story, or had some type of inherent narrative, and I felt would leave the viewer with some sort of impact.
I've changed my mind. I now submit this one. Taken in Troyes Cathedral on a sunny June morning after a service. The incense smoke hung in the air like an ethereal being and this elderly lady walked down the side nave ignoring me with my camera in hand and became an irresistible subject. One quick shot, one chance.
Mimi, I can hear the stillness. You captured your subject's tranquility. and the lighting isn't bad either. ;-)
Chris, you've certainly jumped to the other end of the spectrum here with this entry. ;-) The scene almost comes alive for me, and I can almost smell the incense, and hear the bells and organ off in the muted distance. Nice!
