I've wondered if it would be possible to write a program or a ActiveDesktop that would download a random image from the Days Top Images, and place it as your wallpaper? It be nice to turn on the computer every day and have a new exciting Caedes wallpaper to look at :)
There is a cool program (free, which is cooler) called Wallpaper Slideshow. You can load wallpapers into it and set it to display them at whatever frequency you like. Here's a link!
Another good one for PC is wallmaster. It's free if you're satisfied with a limit of 50 wallpapers in a gallery, inexpensive if you want unlimited numbers. We use wallmaster here in my center - completely stable and customizable.
I use Webshots, and I recommend it. It's designed to pull images from the webshots website, but it can be set to pull files from any place on your local machine that you want. It's a neat program and very versatile, since you can create multiple libraries and activate only those you want to activate. I'm also writing one which will, of course be the best:-)
The difference is that RinsingSon wanted something that would automatically pull images off of caedes.net, not from a local directory. I've thought of this before, however I'm not very interested in programming for the windows platform, so someone else would have to do it.
My impression, Caedes was that the reason you didn't want to do this was the increased traffic through Caedes.Net that would bog down your servers. N'est pas?
Not really, the program would only need to request an image once per day: a negligible load on the servers assuming they do it at different times.
If someone is interested in doing this then let me know. I think that it would be an easy project for someone with VB experience and I'd be willing to do the small amount of programming that would be required sever-side.
Well I know you could it in VB (it is almost a programming language after all) =). I was actually thinking that you could do it with a simple active desktop page as well. I could probably code that myself.
Well I made something that seems to work on Windows XP. It is a simple active desktop page. Just save this HTML page to your computer and set it as your desktop background (yes your should be able to set an HTML file as your background). You may have to turn on Active Desktop if it isn't already enabled. Right now it just picks a random image from the permanent gallery. I'm thinking that we could have one that picks images only from your favorites list. Tell me how it works for you.
Perhaps Top New Images would be good, or a selection of permanent images with a c-index requirement or something. As long as its random and high quality I would be interested.
It seems to work ok with my desktop, though it effectively disables my right-click display options. The other drawback is that it displays a whole bunch of images that I don't remotely like. Still, I guess this is just a beginning.
As per the original post, a script for favourites or TNI's would be interesting.

Caedes, I have come to the impression that there is no way in hell that you can be married. Before I was married (last September), I could crank out projects in my "free" time two or three times a week. They were good stuff too. I could dabble in new technologies and try things I'd never tried. Now that I am married though there never seems to be time to do these things. I get to work on houses and lawns instead. Yes, you must be single. :-)
Thoughts?
