I get confused when I see certain photos featured more often than others. Is this feature completely automated? If not, why isn't it?

Yup, it is completely automated. If I recall correctly, 2 of the images are from the main galleries, and one is from the new images gallery.

It does seem, perhaps by coincidense and my personal timing, that there are some artists that are posted a few times a day; sometimes two of the same artist's pieces simultaniously while others only once in a week or two.
