'They" say that Silence is Golden ( as far back as Solomon) but it is not always golden - sometimes it is yellow - lacking in courage to say what needs to be said.

There is the peaceful calm and beautiful blue silence. Then there is the dark silence of deceit, and the red silence of anger.

I don't know what colour the silence of sadness is - when nothing can be said that will change things.

I SWEAR ON ALL I LOVE: I have 13 cats. I sing KARAOKE, and almost everytime I am looking on a disc for for the song I REALLY wanna sing, it ends up being # 13.
Now...O HOLY NIGHT...is # 14, and I love making my dog { have 3}, howl when I sing that one....but MANY, MANY other fave songs are by weird coincidence, number 13.
{I didn't say that anyone in hearing range is so lucky}...but just sayin......13 is a lucky number for me...and we can all make 2013 a kick ass, FUN, CREATIVE, ARTSY-FARTSY, AWESOME year! We need to thumb our noses at 2012....and welcome in a wayyyy happier New Year...so shake it off!!!!!! Let's play in the threads the way we used to! Don't we have a Seance thread? NOOOOOO, I do NOT mess with OUIJA boards, ever again. Found one...VERY OLD...in a goodwill thrift shop...and my 11 year old daughter and I decided to mess with it before selling it {as intended}, on ebay. NOTHING HAPPENED....as far as the lame attempt to use it, but we felt creeped out and didn't make any real effort....THEN...{* sound effects of rumbling thunder*...weird stuff began happening in our house.....LOTS of DARK, sincerely BAD stuff. There was about 3 maybe 4 weeks of STRANGE things....and BAD, TRULY bad things that went on. Maybe it was coincidence, but it was like a darkness placed over us all. I had a feeling NOT...absolutely NOT to throw it in dumpster or burn it, and decided that if I sold on ebay...it would be purchased by somebody who KNOWS they are not instruments of light and love, so therefore did not feel I was passing on darkness to the unwilling. It did sell...and the 28 dollars was IMMEDIATELY DONATED to my fave charity {Physicians for Responsible Medicine} {they are trying to stop lab testing on animals}...:) I didn't even wanna profit off that creepy board. (((( looks around...sees peeps nodded off, drooling thin pools of saliva from my boring ramble*))))

Not boring... I've learned from very personal experience that 'opening' a window, door or even a smallish hole to the other side, even if you think you're calling up white magic, things can turn dark real fast. I wouldn't risk it again unless there was a shaman or holy person present. Maybe not even then...

Hi MM! Yes, my hubby is comin' home on Friday!

(To Mary) This was about 30 years ago...Much of what he said was way over my head, but to simplify it, this gentleman mentioned that everything split into two opposites, not just the concept of good and evil, but matter/energy, known/unknown, fantasy/reality, light/darkness, etc...For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction...He stated that the universe is teeming with much more of the same, some of which is beyond our own scientific and spiritual comprehension, and one day, it will all eventually come back as one again...

@ Mary ... hope your husband is doing better & wish him well.

@ Terri ... I can relate to the Ouija board thing. I found one at a garage sale & just had to have it as I had one as a teenager. I already knew the old house I was living in was haunted by my grandparents & great grandparents, but more bizarre things started happening after I brought 'the board' home. I would talk to my relatives whenever they would periodlically visit (footsteps on the second story, a door opening a crack when I know I just closed it tightly, the old windmill rotating fast when there was complete stillness (no wind) outside, clocks (manual & digital) going backwards in time). I'd simply ask them to move on to a better place. I didn't think they liked the Ouija board in "their home", so I rid of it & things eventually settled down to almost normal. After my 5th year living on the family farm they finally moved on ... maybe cause I got so use to everything that appeared supernatural & simply ignored it. And yes, I believe.

Ok, ok.. here's my Ouija story..

Friend of mine's sister and me pulled out the Ouija board for some fun and to cap off our mutual birthday celebrations. Lil' bit of talk beforehand on the dark forces, with some shared giggles.

First move/question.. somewhere in the house ... very, very loud bang/sounds of something having fallen and having hit the floor possibly.

... ...

Pack up the Ouija board.

Leave the house, don't investigate.

I'm very boring -- don't think I've even seen a ouija board. Spookiest thing I can tell you recently: couldn't hear a thing (broken hearing aids). Just playing cards on the laptop, completely absorbed in game of Spider Solitaire. An old song suddenly comes into my head... Snoopy Vs the Red Baron. After a little while I look up at the TV... it's Stephen Fry's QI, and he is talking about pink Spitfires. One of his guests is wearing the headgear of a WWI flying ace.

Ouija boards were invented by Parker Brothers or similar as a (not very successful) party game... the oh-so-spooky connotations didn't come into it until later when someone decided they would sell better as a talk-to-the-dead thing...

Interestingly I saw a program once where a guy managed to convince a bunch of people that he could talk to the dead and that the house they were in was haunted. At the end he revealed the house was in fact quite new, no one had ever died in it, and the spirit he had been communicating with was based on the character Sam from the movie "Ghost".

The most astounding thing to me was that all these people still believed they had actually been in contact with someone from beyond the grave even after it was revealed to be complete nonsense.

I have never seen a real Ouija Board but have dabbled (in my long ago youth, about 20 or so) with cards of the alphabet round a table and yes/no in the middle - sit around table with one finger each on upturned glass and have it answer questions.
Is that the same thing ?
On one occassion We (3 of us) learned things that were later confirmed by a relative who had known(was the brother of) the 'informer'. The informer (spirit if you like, had died before I was born) Spooooky but not scary.

How many times does something happen and we think to ourselves "I knew that was going to happen" Is it pure coincidence, deja vu, premonition, or a message from beyond ?

How about having a vivid dream about someone you have not seen, heard or thought of for years , and then reading their death notice in the newspaper the next morning ?

Right now I am sitting alone in my 'computer room' with just a small lamp on the desk. It is dark and quiet. It is almost the midnight hour. There is no moon. The slight hum of my computer competes with the quiet tick tick of the clock on the wall (why does it not tock? strange . . .)
My keyboard strokes override them both but when I pause typing I hear them, and perhaps a murmuring sound . . . . .

Hang on . . . I think I glimpse a flickery thing from the corner of my eye. Again the whispery murmur. I feel a presence in the room . . . . . .. . . .I have a premonition it may rain, and yes sure enough I hear slight patters on the window . . . .oooooo . . . . .

Oh Help, now I hear blood curdling screaming and screeching, and banging and footsteps in another part of the house - I cover my ears and freeze in terror as something falls with a thud along the hallway. . . . .

Darn cats are fighting again !!

vanilla...? I'll have to try that in our 'have-a-heart' trap. though we did catch at least five of the little critters with peanut butter last fall... the way they shot out of the trap when I released them a good mile from the house you'd think they had wings... wait, do you suppose we just kept catching the same mouse five different times?? Nah... they aren't that intelligent...

Strange... we have a wall clock and it goes tock-tock-tock... but no ticks at all... strange again. Maybe it's a hemispheric thing.

Don't know what to suggest re the mouse. Just have to pile all your furniture up and attempt to drive it... but I know that mice are wily, and will not allow themselves to be driven if they can avoid it. It will double back! (Maybe you can use that to your advantage too).

...ok, SAMATAR..you non believer in spooks...! I too was like you, and still have this part of myself that seeks a scientific reason behind things. I read all above spooky stuff, and believe that all experienced something they at least BELIEVE and have no scientific explanation for.
I DO have a super weird photo...think I posted on a thread here before, of some strange...ghost-like figure, standing behind my chair, with my cat, Phoenix perched on chair. My Mom died in this room { with said Chair and ghost}...and form was VERY detailed, and I have raw/un-doctored photos, if only I knew how to link. BOOMSPEED was my photo host site, and it has been down soooo long and I do not trust photo host sites..so?
Anyhoodles...I definitely have a belief in things of spooky realms, because of stuff that has happened in my home...{ like a HEAVY box of hard back books flying off fridge in our utility room...NOBODY home but me...and HIT me on right side of neck, knocked me to my knees, and my neck was in pain 2 weeks. NOTHING but LAUNDRY, fridge, CONCRETE FLOOR{so no walking by shakes that fridge}...and NO raccoons, wildlife in room...no cats or dogs even allowed in that room. TRUE story. BOX had been there 2ish years, in CENTER of top of fridge. I simply walked thru room, reached for doorknob, and WHAM...was hit...and down I went. NOTHING was in room but me...and if it were to have been a case of being on EDGE..teetering...it would have toppled, and gravity simply pull downward...NOT shoot across more than 8 feet and hit me with such hard force as to knock me down. I did have surge of adrenalin that made me leap into FIGHT mode, as I assumed somebody must SURELY have broken in my home and maybe was BEHIND fridge/at other side...but NOPE. NOTHING. Had a DANCERINA DOLL {from 1960"?} that had been on top of those John Grisham books...and she landed...HEADLESS, and head was just kinda creepily staring up at me { when I began picking up the mess/books}. I have friends who come by, ONE was to house-sit/pet sit for us a few years ago, and she emailed me { I was on a cruise}, and let me know MY HOUSE IS HAUNTED, and the tv in kitchen turned on and off by itself while she was in my house to feed pets, and the oven light would just randomly strobe...FAST..like a short on oven door...{others have been visiting and this happened during dinner as well...} MAYBE this was an oven short...we did get rid of it, and no more weird oven stuff...but husband is a non believer, and he drives to work and his van's radio volume will just randomly go up to ear splitting volume. He called {cell ph} to tell me, and I was on pc, and volume on my PC went up within this conversation time...{this is all true...*shrugs if nobody believes....
whatever it is, I am NOT scared. My kids are. My pets act spooked at times. After that box of books hit me..and once I realized NOBODY {alive} was in room...I was FURIOUS....truly, and I screamed/yelled at top of lungs, to whatever it was, that SOMEDAY, I too would be on "the other side"...and some ghost is gonna get a damned ass-kicking....

...A good part of this modern obsession with ghosts, goblins, vampires, antichrists, devils, witches, chainsaw killers, etc...can also be attributed to the economic hard times this world is going through...There's a lot of gloom out there...

A couple of past examples were the appearances of the original cult "Frankenstein" and "Dracula" movies, both of which were released in 1931 - A time well into the Great Depression when 1/3 of America was out of work, bank failures left and right, investors going broke overnight, people forced from their homes, losing their cars, their personal effects, going from town to town like nomads - looking for whatever odd jobs they could find, standing on bread and soup lines, spitting on pictures of key decision makers in Washington for doing little or nothing about the situation, etc...

Not too far different from how it is now...Mucho gloom in reality, so the kind of things maybe only a few are into during good times are more widely accepted in adverse ones...
