Hi, i was wanting to know if a maze I drew (by hand on ms paint by the way) would be considered art (it took a reallllllly long time to do) it's very small corridors 1px thick and the whole thing is 1152 - 864 (best viewed in paint if you want a try - so is a desktop that gives you something to do okay or would I be wasting my time trying to upload it?

I don't think a desktop has to be "art" per se. The maze sounds interesting - why don't you submit it and see what the reaction is? Never know till you try! =)

The only protection an artist has for his/her original idea or concept is to copyright it, trademark it, or publish it. You must bring your original idea or concept to reality in whatever art form that suits you, and then safeguard it. When art is stolen outright or modified by another party for profit or without proper attribution and remuneration to the authot, that constitutes theft of intellectual property.

As a working writer, I know how important it is to safeguard intellectual property. Always keep in mind there are lots more people out there who consume, rather than produce, and so your creativity is constantly up for grabs by others.

If you think of your original work as your own child, you'll start to get the idea of how important this issue can become to the working artist.

You ask what is Art, and that is a question that even the government seems to have a problem defining. I started working on some ideas that I hope to publish here for comment soon as to what makes "good" wallpaper art. Obviously we all have differing opinions. Having been an art lover for years, married to an artist at one time, and best friends with an impressionist painter, I've learned a LOT. Here's my take on it, and I think many will agree. Art is basically anything that is created or minipulated in such a manner as to provoke an emotion. It's not about pretty, it's not about refined, necessarily. One of the most controversial pieces of art in the Tate Museum in London is a large canvas, about 10 x 12 or so, that is just painted black. I didn't consider that art, but many do. My wife explained it to me. She said, you look at this and think, I could do that, what's the point? That is an emotion, therefore the artist succeeded in creating a piece that can truly be called ART.

So to answer the real question, is your maze art? Well, if someone looks at it and the colors, design, or shapes provoke emotion, it's art. If not, I'd be surprised. If a black canvas can provoke emotions, I suspect your maze will as well. The emotions may not be strong, they may not be what you intended, but if you say it's art, it is, even if I don't think so.

Did I totally confuse the issue?
