My high-school Latin teacher said words spelled that way were pronounced one of two ways. They could be Kiy-dees or Kay-dees according to him. I t depended on whether you chose to accept the pronunciation offered by Catholic (biblical) scholars or neo-classical scholars who chose a different pronunciation.
nasally as in 'using your nostrils'? so... is you can control each of your nostril's openings independently, does that mean you can be saying two different things at the same time? awesome...
Does The Shadowed One like tomato soup with his toasted cheese sandwiche ? Because that's like the All American lunch which I personally loathe so you can have mine.
Cædes is a latin feminine noun that refers to a murder, massacre, or the slain. (!!!)
I always say Kaydeeze but I believe "K'eye'daes" is correct.
But what do I know :) :)
Looking through the 17000+ posts would probably give an answer - but I dont have time :)
I see Tootles shouting it from the shadows a bit further up on this page.
I pronounce it S-A-Y---D-E-S-E or , say-these ( without the "th" sound )
I like Kaydeez too, but when i first read it , i pronounced it Saydeez or saydeze or saydese
yes but that means the last syllable is pronounced 'diss' which is ever so dangerous, as I found out two years ago... It's safer to pronounce it thusly: Kay-ee-deeze.
Kay'-dess or Kay'-dezz would be technically correct. However, one could make the argument that it is spelled like Caesar. Thus, it would be See'-dess or See'-dezz. Then again, using Latin phonetics, it would be Ky'-dess or Ky'-dezz. I will stick with Kay'-dess.
"There is always something waiting at the end of the road ... if you're not willing to see what it is ... you probably shouldn't be out there in the first place."
In truth it's pronounced: See-Ay-Ee-Dee-Ee-Ess. This knowledge will of course eliminate any and all confusion and also render this thread completely unnecessary. However, since this thread has been shown to be essential to the continued functioning of life, the universe, and everything (thank you HGttG), I must therefore erase all memory of this from your minds *BZZZZ* and say that I pronounce it SAYDS.
hmmmmm that kinda makes sense.. didn't think of it that way.. it figures with the way Geri has Praetors, consuls and Praetor Maximus as his counsel "S" instead of "K" makes it more obvious.. *crawls back into the dark corner
