Maybe it's because my photographs haven't made it into the perms that I am bringing this up but i am quite alarmed at what I am seeing. If one looks at the first 36 photos I am sure that he or she will see the same artists over and over. This seems very odd considering there are many talented photographers. Maybe we need to redo the method of the placing of photographs in the perms. Some of the ones I see are quite mundane and certainly could be replaced with other works. It almost seems like a little engine.....you vote for me, I vote for you. This is why I have mostly stayed away.

It may be that there just isn't as many of us as there once was, Jen. Look at the User Stats in the left column, at almost any time of day, and you'll see that although there's currently (as I write this) 249,908 total members (imagine getting a penny from each one!), there's only a short handful of members online. Also, clicking on the "Site Information" under Navigation in that column, and selecting Most Active Members, instead of the hundred that were always listed, that list now ranges from somewhere in the 50's to the 70s... we don't even have 100 members active enough to register on that list. I'm afraid interest is waning.

Jen, the method of placing images in the Main Galleries is solely at the discretion of the Moderators. There is no voting of any kind available to the rest of us.


I think perhaps it has always been the case that when we look at the Main Gallery selections we are aware of absences that we personally consider worthy of inclusion. As pointed out by Nikoneer the number of members uploading is far less than in earlier times so there is a smaller pool of available images.

Because of the inclusion of submissions to the B & W Challenge the names of those participating appear quite frequently and repetitively. This is because it has devolved into a smaller group of very dedicated and keen B&W artists. Looking at the images on the Main Galleries/Contests/B&W Challenge pages I see many excellent and worthy images but if this contest gallery is disregarded in the overall Main Galleries then the duplicate names are not so prevalent.


For my own part I just enjoy images from any Gallery - New Images and Main Galleries alike. In recent times my time here has been very limited and I tend to view the New Images first. I don't always have time to comment. A quick look at the first two pages (36 each) I can see several that I would have thought deserved promotion to the Main Galleries - some of them have been and others haven't. Each and every one of us would make different choices. Those I especially like I download and save and create my own personal 'Main Gallery'. Some of them are obviously top notch images and others are those that just seemed pleasing to me. I do see names reappearing - because the style of work those artists provide is what I personally find attractive. I then regard the site Main Galleries as someone else's choice.

Good points made by both of you. Thanks. Am I to understand that the moderators do all the elevating and that the artist council box is not used. Is this done by only one of the moderators? Nothing personal, but I really find it hard to believe what has been promoted and what has not.

The Art Council was discontinued a long time ago.
The button is still visible but it does not work - leads to an Internal Server Error message only.
