its all down to gif's. GIF files arnt just still images but can run as animated sequence. so if you get hold of a gif generating program you can put together an animated icon.. just remember you have to keep it within the specified icon pixel 60 x 60 and 5Kb. infact ive been playing around with making GIF based desktop wallpapers which have animations built into them..... unfortunately the caedes site picture coding will change uploaded GIF's into Jpeg...(or so caedes tells me :D) actually the GIF i uploaded without any imagewhen i tried. Ive been using free gif animator programs that i found searching on google... and now have got myself ULEAD Gif Animator.
(if anyone wants to see my animated wallpapers im going to be posting them on my msn group websapce and linking them in an upcoming image, they anrt wonders of modern animation... just subtle effects and some jerky fledgling attempts.. i'm new to animation)
Just FYI I really hate animated icons. If they start bothering me I'm likely to tell the server to automagically kill them on sight. A well designed and site-integrated icon is much more impressive in my opinion.

Thanks ::grimbug! I'm really confused now with all that high teck talk (I don't have a clue what a GIF is) don't laugh!! Sorry caedes- - I'll probably just stick with a still one. Thanks anyways, ::grimbug!
Oops! this picture was supposed to be my icon, but I guess it's too blurry. I just made it on paint! It's soooo hard to get a picture that is less than 5Kb - I've tried about twenty so far and they are all 10kb or more. :-(

ok what you can do is go to microsoft paint, assuming you have microsoft, and do format(i think)<<stretch/skew you might have to play with it a while to make sure you don't make things to small or too large but yeah that's how

I think a bit of animated steam coming out of the burger wouldn't be too distracting. But I don't know how to do it. And Pierre, your bird still isn't moving.
I tried to do an animated icon today of Jasmine with a waggy tail, but even when I reduced the quality and the color until it was practically black and white, the file size was still to large ( about 11 kb). Anyone have any ideas how I can make it smaller and still make it look decent?
PS Pierre, I LOVE your New Years Eagle... that bowtie is so spiffy!
At times life is wicked and I just can't see the light, a silver lining sometimes isn't enough to make some wrongs seem right, whatever life brings, I've been through everything, and now I'm on my knees again but I know I must go on, although I hurt I must be strong, because inside I know that many feel this way... ~Creed~

As far as I know you need software that is designed specifically to create animated icons. I used "ulead gif animator" whcih was a free download. It only worked for a limited time though. There are probably others around.
read my first post on this ... but basically you need an animation program..(a GIF editor... 'Graphics Interchange Format) to create a tiny animation file. Im using Ulead Gif Animator 5.. my icon is a very basic animation.. just simply 5 frames looped together using a time delay so they aren't annoyingly hectic!
