I know ya'll take REALLY good pictures, and I'd like to ask what type of cameras and photoshop programs ya'll use. my camera and my photoshop program both aren't the best. a really good digital camera would be good. and my computer is a Windows 98 so that narrows down the choices for a photoshop. Please help!! Thanks! RT

Im using Adobe Photoshop CS2 on a Mac and a Canon EOS350D (Rebel XT) camera. As far as I can remember the Adobe product requires either Win 2000 or XP. Your profile says your a student so this opens you up to nice cheap upgrades to XP via educational discounts from Microsoft and dirt cheap Educational licenses from Adobe in comparison to the rest of us regular mortals. My first digi cam was a Fuji S7000 - although not an SLR itself you could certainly do a lot worse.

if his computer has win98 it may not be capable of running XP if he purchased the upgrade

Don't agree about th OS, Phil. 2 years ago, I worked with Windows 98 and Photoshop 5.0.
Megan: if you are student, maybe you haven't enough money to buy an SLR cam. Look into this forum, there are a lot of discussions about cams. Don't forget: min 3 MP and 3x optical zoom. Photoshop is an expensive software. You can read more here

Pierre - I was referring to the latest Photoshop system requirements (CS2) which specify 2000 (SP4) or XP - older versions up to 7.5 I believe should work fine. Adobe quote an educational price for Photoshop CS2 as $299 or $399 for the full CS2 Premium Suite. Still pricey I grant you.

You don't necessarily need photo shop either. Paint shop pro is a great program and much easier to us. Also cheaper and will take almost all of the same plug-in and filter add-ons as PS.
But my favorite is Corel paint suit 11 is just very large and it takes awhile to know and get use to.
As far as cameras I will always suggest either Fuji or Olympus for the beginners but if you have the money for an SLR go Cannon, Nikon or even the new Pentex cameras they all have great rating and are all very reliable. Even the new Kodaks are very well rated. Either way I would stay above 4.o mega pixels if you can.

Good morning
I long to own a good SLR such as a Nikon or Canon, but am using what I can afford - a FujiFilm S3000 (since superceded) (twice). It takes fairly OK pickies, but is slowly failing - I have been told I will lose it for a month when I send it for repairs. Can't afford Photoshop, but am very happy with the results from The Gimp, highly recommend it, and it is free.
Enjoy your day

If you want to save big dollars get RawShooter essentials from Pixmantec, its very competent software for photographs. Then you can put the savings towards a nicer camera. As for cameras I use a Canon 300D. prismmagic has good advice about other cameras. See post above.

Well, I just found a program that's on my parents computer and loaded it to mine, called PhotoImpact 8 by Ulead. Its got some neat stuff, but its not the greatest. I used it to make "Sky Tears". I'm still figuring it out at this point. See ya'll later!

if you cant afford a good DSLR, I would nt recommend that you buy a digital point and shoot. I would say get a film SLR, which are about 1/4 the price. Main disadvantage is you have to deal with the hassel of film...but hey, would you rather have more hassel, or the cheap shots you get with a Digital Point and shoot?

Right now I am using a Nikon D70s and it was kind of going over my head to get it at age 17... before it i used a Nikon 5700, it took amazing images 5Mp 8x Optical and you can get it fairly reasonably (less than $1000CAD)

As for a program I use Adobe CS2 and it is rather expensive and can be difficult to learn its abilitys
