Disapointed

I'm very disapointed, because some of my high rated and high downloaded images were deleted from the server instead of going permanent. I thought I understood how it worked but it is clear to me now that I understood nothing....:o((!!!

No worries, some of my good ones were deleted as well. There is an element of personal taste involved, I'm sure. One of my images had 18 votes...the highest number on any of mine, but it was deleted. No worries...I will improve it and post. :D

Nah, that isn't what it's about. C-index is nothing much to wrap oneself around anyway. Having fun and meeting the great people here is the thing if you ask me.

If I judged the site by the photos I have had deleted here, woulda been gone long ago...You hang in there and work at it and you will get your just rewards...that's about all this one will say?

Thanks everyone for your good words and support. Some of the images I am refering to were downloaded more then 200 to 300 times and had an average score of 88 to 90 and about 20 votes on it. Thats why I was so stunned about all this! But now I know better. I do love my friends here, and that's why I will continue to come, but unless I have smething absolutly out of the ordinary I won't be uploading.

I'll talk more to you in a PM, my friend, but some comments are worth posting publicly. I found out long ago that to be a true artist you have to be a little thick-skinned when it comes to judges, art critics, etc. Everyone is absolutely unique in their likes and dislikes. I guess that's what makes the world such an interesting place to live. Fotobob was telling me a couple weeks ago how an art gallery owner verbally ripped him to shreds - essentially telling him in so many words that his art wasn't worthy of this gallery. Robert was telling me how badly he felt for days afterwards. Well, you and I both know how wonderful Robert's photos are. A good benefit from Caedes in this case is that Robert will come visit and I'll help him put together a DVD presentation of his best works to distribute to galleries - I get to meet one of my Caedes friends in person!

This kind of thing has happened often to me (and unfortunately I let it bother me for a long while instead of brushing it off and continuing on). You truly have a wonderful eye for beauty - a strong sense of beautiful color and shape. I think it would be a shame for you to stop posting - if not here at Caedes where you have a faithful audience you've built up - then somewhere else (perhaps your own website - where you have total control over what is displayed in your gallery). Don't let these deletions bother you. If it were a different combination of judges the results would have been totally different. Enjoy the community here. Keep on posting - it's fun to see how people respond to your work. Then if they get deleted in the end, so be it. You've still got all your originals. And you've brightened our day each time you post. Besides, we enjoy your friendship and company online. Take care, my friend.

Thank you Nathan.. You have said, much more eloquently than I could, exactly what I wanted to say..
Please don't stop posting, I love your images.. I have saved every one of them in a folder with your name on it, on my computer.. You are too special to give up so easily.. I have learned over the years not to let disappointment eat holes in my soul.. Don't let it do that to you.. I would miss your wonderul images and great descriptions.. You have constantly inspired me to improve.. Give yourself a good cry, it will help.. Please don't stop.. We need you here..

You can count me in as another who would greatly miss your images if you stop uploading, Marou...your work has always been quite distinctive and a pleasure to view...don't feel bad about the permanent gallery bit...when you think about it, even when images do make it there, just how long will they remain before having to step aside to make way for new ones?...the main thing is that many of us here DO value your images and hope you will continue to post...and obviously visitors to the site appreciate your creations with the number of downloads you have had.:Pat.

Count me in as someone who would miss your images tremendously if you stopped posting Marou! The "man behind the curtain" pulled my "Favorite Toy" of my Pug Koda of late too and the photo had only been up a couple of weeks...I was surprised because I thought it was a pretty good shot and that new images stayed up for a month before they were yanked here ...? Nonetheless, I couldn't agree more that the fun of this site is in meeting talented people and sharing creations - - and that includes YOU!

WENPEDER- "Snap-shots" are removed after a week or two.

Vamoura- If you want more views, downloads, & votes on your images, I suggest uploading images at 1600x1200 pixels. Many members filter out the smaller images that are two small for their monitors.

Yes, resolution is important if you want your images moved to the permenant galleries. Also consider that there are currently nearly 4500 images in the "New" gallery; to go throught them all and give each careful consideration is practically impossible. Basically this means that to be moved to the permenants, an image may have to be truly exceptional. An unfortunate fact on a constantly growing site like this one is that we just have to keep raising the standards, or we will end up with too many images in the permenant galleries.

Guess I don't quite understand what constitutes a "snap shot," Piner. I shot that photo of Koda with a new digital camera I just purchased, just like the other shot of Koda. Both were uploaded within a couple of days of one another and the other photo remains on Caedes. I didn't just post a "snap shot." I took that shot into photoshop and did quite a bit of work on it, including removing a table that was a distraction in the background. But, thanks for filling me in on Caedes' policy in this regard.

Since all my images resolution is 1600X1200 , they had more votes then the average, more rated, and more dowl it really must have been soething else. Well I upload too much I guess.
Thank you every one for your support.

I think Piner had you confused with someone else, Marou...As you say, from what I have seen, all of your images are at 1600X1200. In fact, I don't recall ever seeing any image of yours that was only available in smaller form. Don't know how these things get decided but there's the old saying that "Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder" and lots of talented folks here love your work Marou. Obviously not all the images uploaded here can remain here permanently....I, frankly, don't envy whoever has to decide which images go and which stay. But, Nathan put it well and I hope you take his advise, Marou...Keep creating and keep sharing. You love doing it and a lot of us value seeing what you do!

Amen to what Wendy just said. I don't envy the judges either. Rather, I'd hope that everyone who posts to Caedes makes the job extremely difficult for them - because everything they post would be so darn good! :)

WOW! I just looked at your wonderful gallery - all 3 pages. After about 2 and 1/2 years, I can't seem to keep more than 1 page of images up!!! But - don't worry. I have made many caedes friends. Have fun on the discussion boards. Make up stories, share ideas and some work. You only have to look at the number of members, regular members and images here to see what a mammoth task managing it all would be. I just downloaded and am currently using one of your stunning images on my desktop. I am enjoying looking at it emensly! I hope that makes you feel special, and your art!

I too have been on the site for a quite a while and only have 5 pages in my gallery (viewed at 12 images per page). I've deleted quite a few images and others have been removed by mods. I could probably do with removing some more of mine too...

Given that you, Marou, and you, Wendy, have been on the site only a few months and have each accumulated 8 pages of images, I would say you are doing fine. Of course, it's frustrating when an image doesn't make it - we've all experienced it. However, I personally think that too many images get through (including mine!) We could all probably do with housekeeping our own images - I don't envy the imagemods with all the submissions we get. I've had some images recently that got deleted when on past experience they would have got through. But this is probably no bad thing for the bar to be rising.

Anyway, as per some of the excellent advice above, enjoy the site for what it is. It's no reflection on you as a person if an image didn't make it.

Hi, Matthew....I was remarking on one particular image that had only been up a couple of weeks. I do understand that "housecleaning" is necessary here and have removed a number of my images. I just removed another today and have my eye on a couple more that I will probably pull. My issue centered on how long new images are up before they are yanked and, while it's no big deal, I still think somebody yanked the image in question a bit hastily....<G> Just EXPLAINING myself. Carry on....LOL!
