Sorting Favorites

Just wondering if somewhere down the road in the new changes there could be a way to sort our favorites by author A-Z or would this be too difiicult to implement? I try to keep my favorites to a minimum which is difficult since I've been here a while. I review them every now and then and do not take the privilege to have a favorites gallery lightly. As author's works improve, I of course find new favorites. I spend a great deal of time figuring out how many works I have of someone's and which ones are my absolute favorites to date of each author represented there. Thanks

Yes, we could do that. I'm thinking that it would be better if each person's favorite list was displayed like the Image Rankings are now.

That would work. ;)

"We", does that mean us or you in general? Nice idea though:-)

I think it was the royal 'we'!

Nice to see that favorites are kept to a minimum by some though - perhaps we could introduce a cap?

I had asked about a cap before for the simple reason that you can't have all that many absolute favorites, and when you have tons of images in your favorites gallery, the tribute due to the truly exceptional images is greatly lessened. The response was that it is hard on people who have been here for a while to keep the numbers down.

I understand that to some degree, but I am sure not nearly as severe. I used to have a one page favorites gallery, but that really is impossible. I now set my personal limit at two (I remove one if I find a better one), but that is also unreasonable.

Just keep in mind that nobody wants to actually look at which images are your favorites if that includes a worthy percentage of the site.

I disagree and would not like to see a cap put on favorites. That is not what I asked for in this post. Someone with tastes very similar to my own and limited time asked me for a "shortcut" to finding some good images and authors and I was most pleased to be able to recommend my favorites folder to that person for starters. From there, it went to other's favorites, etc. Given the number of authors on here, the length of time I've been here, and the wide variety of art that I enjoy, I would have a very difficult time with just one or two pages. Under 20 is where I try to keep it and that's difficult enough. Obviously, these are saved on my HD too, but it's a privilege and honor to others that I would not like to see taken off here or capped. If it were capped, the only way I could be fair, is to not put any in there at all. ;(

Very true. 20 is not neccessarily bad, but many people on the site have many more pages than that. I was only responding to the idea of a cap, not presenting that as the only solution.

I think that a way to rank the images would be much more effective. Being able to place them in order from "Most Favorite" to "Barely Favorite" would make finding the cream of the crop easier. I can visualize a list selection screen similar to the Netflix order que, able to be reordered at anytime.

The best part about having images ranked in that order is that then they could potentially be given more (or less) of a boost in C-index. For example, say that the #1 image in my favorites gallery would recieve 125% of the normal effect of having an image in a favorites gallery. Following a constant pattern, my #6 image would recieve 120% of the value, #11 would get 115%, my 56th would get 70%, and #96 and all after would recieve a constant 30%. I hope this wouldn't be too difficult to code following such a pattern, but I have no knowledge of writing codes (other than 1=A, 2=B, ect...). The biggest hole in this theory that I can see would be actually ordering these. For people with 40 pages in their favorites gallery, this could really be a pain!

If you like this idea or don't, please say so and why. If you have a better idea, I am all ears.

Well, if I ever used that system it would only be to sort by author and check that I have my most current favorites of that author in that gallery. There's no way I can list them in order of my personal preference given the variety that is there. That would, for me, be like deciding which child of mine is the very best. No way possible. Even 20 pages is not a set limit for me but I seem to stay near that pretty well for now and have for some time.

Well, seeing as I have never born (or sired, for that matter) children, I am not sure I could understand, but I do catch the drift. :-) It was just an idea, so no harm done. I would like to here some ideas from other people too.

There is no reason to limit the number of favorites in anyone's gallery since favorites are not used in the c-index calculation.

Grr. I liked the days when they were. :-)

I like my view of what I think a favorites gallery should be even if it is warped. Thanks for keeping things running, you do a far better job than I could.

Just an idea... but is there any possibility that in the future there could be an option somewhere - somewhere where you can select either "Unrestricted" or "Capped"... and if someone did select "Capped", this cap would increase in increments every so often according to how long a member has been a part of Caedes. Again, this is just an idea to incorporate previously mentioned ideas...
