i would just go into windows explore and delete them where they really are. I find with programs deleting stuff it never works quite right. Give that a try maybe.

I have found the only thing that works is to slowly delete them one at a time.. Or delete them all, and restore what you want to keep.. Either of those works fairly well it s just the computer protecting itself from you.. I can rarely delete more than three at a time, without copy's being made.. Delete a few, give half an hour then delete a few more. but do it no more than 2 or 3 at a time.. It is time consuming but the only thing that works for me..

You have to hit exactly on the icon, not the name of the file. Easiest to do viewed as a list. I had this problem too, but no longer unless I miss the icon!

Hi Morwyn. I usually run a copy of Windows Explorer (Not Internet Explorer) at the same time as I run my photo viewer. I slideshow through my images using the viewer, and each time I want to DELETE an image I flip over to Windows Explorer, and <CONTROL><CLICK> the filename. When I finish the slideshow I flip back to WE, and hit <DEL>.

The image viewer I use is Irfanview. It makes this process extremely easy compared to the very ponderous PaintShop Pro. You can find Windows Explorer by clicking your "Start Menu", then selecting "Programs", and "Accessories", and there it is. Once it opens, click on the "Folders" button on the toolbar of WE, and the window will split into a file list and a directory tree. The directory structure of your hard drive is right there for you to examine.

well I have about 800 photos to go thru...and Ive taken a ton of time to delete like three or so at a time..and STILL they multiply with copies! But the strange thing is that it only does it with a particular set of photos taken with the Nikon of my grandkids, my daughter who is 26 took them, and THOSE are the only ones that keep coming up with copy after copy..All my other shots of flowers , scenery etc..do NOT make copies..what is that all bout? I wonder. Well I'll try some of the things you all have suggested and let ya know..Im so glad to get your input!!!

Usually these photo programs only store a thumbnail image as a link to the actual file in windows. It sounds like each time you open Paint shop it creates a new thumbnail for the image you think you are deleting when in fact it still exists in Windows. Somewhere in Paint Shop should be a spot to tell it not to search for new photos each time it starts...unless that is what you prefer. My Photos is the actual directory where your photos should be stored...it is best to delete them there.

Thats where the trouble is.I open up My Photos and then I try to delete one ata time, and each time I do, another COPY comes up next to it..I've gotten as much as four copies each time of each print. The more I delete the more copies there are. I will check Paint Shop to see about that.

This is an odd discussion. I mean if you want to delete a file, you just delete it - end of story.

Sounds like the problem is that you are going through various shell applications or whatever, rather than just deleting the actual file. Having said that, any application worth it's salt should do it fine anyway. Occasionally out of laziness or whatever I might delete a file through Photoshop or something, rather than straight from the directory. Even then I've never had a problem. I'm struggling to understand this.

When you say another copy appears, what exactly is this copy? How is it named, etc?

I have tried deleting this in all sorts of ways, and all that happens is that another "copy" comes up or up to five more..and each one has a name "copy 1, copy2 etc etc"....

sounds like a glitch somewhere.

Go into windows explorer, click on program files, click on jasc (or Paint Shop Pro..however it is saved.) go to the files which say copy..highlight then delete them. If you know what the names of the original files were, highlight them, and right click and hit properties. That might give an explanation.

Either that or you have to delete the originals as well.

I just tend to view files through the default windows viewer. Am I a heathen?

Is PSP set up on your system so that it is the default file viewer for certin image files? I'm wondering if it's launching a separate copy of itself each time you double-click a file or am i way off of the mark?

I use windows viewer as my default files for all images.. It is so much easier to use and I always know where my images are.. I still have that probelm if I try to delete or move too many at a time, unless I do them all.. No more that two maybe three at a time.. Slow but it is working for me.. Good luck Varena, figuring out what to do..

hmm...it is in My Computers, then C: then in Program Files...is Jasc Software Inc.

Of course, it depends where you save the files to. (smacks head)

On windows it is likely the files defaulted to 'my photos'.

Verenabloo: I'm probably wrong about the default viewer, it sounds like you have another issue. However, to find out default file programs, go to Control Panel, Folder options, File Types and look through the alphabetical list at image files such as BMP and JPEG to see what the default application to open them is.

When you decide to look at an image, what exactly do you do, from beginning to end?

Ok I thought of something...when my photos go from my digital to the puter...they go to ACDsee and then I put them into Pain Shop Pro..could it have something to do with it because its in ACDsee? I dont even use that program anymore.
