Hi, I’ve been on caedes for a while now but only recently have I had the time to put some focus on photography. I have posted two pics already and would like an opnion and feedback on “life is,..”

I thought the over-ripe cherries would be more interesting as an image however many votes seem to say the opposite. There are no opinions from people who don’t like the picture which isn’t helpful. I am interested to know what the caedes audience is looking for, photographic perfection or an “interesting” image.

"There are no opinions from people who don’t like the picture...". There've been a few discussions around that problem - there are some people who are happy to heap praise and high marks on pictures, and some who give low marks but don't explain why. We seem to be short of people who are willing to explain what they don't like, which is a pity as that's often the best sort of feedback. Part of the problem is that people who have left constructive criticism appear to have been singled out for "revenge voting" whereby even their best pictures are given votes of 2 or less with no explanation.

Speaking for myself, I'd go for "interesting images" every time, although there's no reason why these shouldn't also be photographically perfect. An image of a rotting bowl of cherries may have more to say than one of a fresh bowl, but it still has to be well taken. But caedes is a desktop wallpaper site, and I think that what most people are looking for (and voting for) are pictures that they'd like to see in front of them while they're using their screens - a "pleasing" image is likely to be higher rated than a "challenging" one.

yea, i can see how the fungus on the cherry won't be appreciated by some. I'm not sure i'd want it on my desktop all the time either.

I have read about the revenge voting occuring and i think it is very childish. I personally get appreciative replies to the comments i make so i don't think i am suffering from that.

"A piece of toast with butter always lands butter side down, and a cat always lands on its feet. What happens if a piece of toast is tied butter side down to the back of falling cat? Does it hover above the ground in perpetual indecision?"
