The rest of the years studio output is looking pretty formulated and dire - are there any movies coming soon that you are waiting to see? or for that matter, ones that you have seen that you would recommend be given the widest possible berth by anyone considering watching them...
the four movies I'm most looking forward to seeing this year are:
The Exorcisim of Emily Rose, Flightplan, The Chronicles of Narnia & The Brothers Grimm
I've heard of The Brothers Grimm and I'm curious to see what it's all about. I don't know when it comes out though. Hmm.. I can't think of any movies that I want to see that havent come out yet... but I want to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It's in theatres now :)
August/September and its a Terry Gilliam flick (so it should be mental) starring Heath Ledger & Matt Damon and, oddly enough, it's about The Brothers Grimm - they of the fairy tale fame.
Yeah - cant wait to see The Brothers Grimm. I am also looking forward to seeing The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Not sure when that is coming out. Those are the two for me. Oh, and the new Harry Potter movie. Star Wars is over....so, I'm stuck watching those over, and over, and over.......and over until something worth it comes out.
I found it odd that Heath Ledger and Matt Damon would be in the Brothers Grimm flick...I'm not a fan of either. Regardless...I'm gonna watch it just because it's the Brothers Grimm.
Terry Gilliam flicks are normally on the tightest possible budgets as the studio's don't trust him at all so you could conclude that messers Ledger & Damon were either cheap, available or both :-)
Not due out this year but next, The Da Vinci Code is already causing lots of controversy. Westminster Abbey today refused permission to Sony to use the abbey as a location. The London chapel of Opus Dei have also been on the news giving interviews complaining bitterly about being portrayed as being deceiptful and murderers. The church is now formally asking Sony to re-write the script to portray it in a more flattering light.
lol!! Now, that is not suprising at all in regards to The Da Vinci Code. I loved the book and am interested in how the movie will turn out - however, I can imagine that certain locations will be none-too-pleased to be included in that movie.
I am looking forward to George Lucas's next adventure in movie making. I believe that it will be far from anything close to Star Wars - which, is almost a relief.
I looked into the Narnia Chronicles and found that WETA will be doing a good deal of work on the Chronicles...which, gives me great hope as they are the ones that worked on the Lord of the Rings movies....and, they shot some of it in New Zealand. Sounds promising....even if it is a Disney movie.
One of my favorite short stories, Ray Bradbury s Sound of Thunder has been adapted. Don't know how well it will play out, I'll have to see more to be able to tell if they've made a mess of it or not like the recently did with another sci-fi classic. The Brothers Grimm trailer looked gorgeous and when I saw Terry Gilliams name come up, well, I'm all in for that. May even have to schlep to a theatre, Gilliam always looks best on a large screen.
looks interesting - havent read the book but watched the trailer here . time travel and dinosaurs...dont know what was scarier - the creepy creatures or Ben Kingsley's bizarre white hair piece :-)
Yup. Aeon Flux is some kind of assassin if I'm not mistaken, and it is based on a comic. Anythig staring South Africa's golden girl should be excellent!
lol - Well, feeling that I have to back Crusader up here....I'm not from South Africa...but, I was excited to find out she was in it. :-D I've read that some are not too thrilled that she will be the one....but, what do they know, right? She would not have been the person I would have expected but am glad that they chose her. I think one would imagine Angelina more fit for that role. But, I'll take Charlize anyday!
I can not believe I did not recognise the name Terry Gilliam....I just looked him up on IMDb....I should be ashamed. Well, now I feel much better in regards to The Brothers Grimm!
Well, honestly - I do not remember in my entire time here at caedes.net, ever posting to a thread this much....lol!
Found and remembered some other movies that look to be promising.
Corpse Bride - I cant help myself with this one....I love Tim Burton.
The Libertine - starring Mr. Depp playing the Earl of Rochester. Sounds very interesting and seems that this could possibly get a few awards.
Everything is Illuminated - starring Eliijah Wood. Just sounds like a good story to me. It could end up being horrible.
I saw that same list, Tracy. The Libertine also looked interresting to me. I also noticed Phillip Seymour Hoffman (always a powerhouse) playing Truman Capote researching his novel "In Cold Blood". I seem to be on a literary conversion bent.
Tracy - George Lucas's next movie projects are planned to be: Red Tails (about African-American fighter pilots during World War Two) and then the much vaunted Indiana Jones 4 (dreadful feeling in the pit of my stomach that this will turn out to be an awfully cynical money making exercise as opposed to a genuinely enjoyable action flick)
Yeah - I've been waiting for IJ4 for quite some time. From my understanding they've (Lucas and Spielberg) been talking about it for a long time but could never agree on anything. I'd hope that two powerhouses like themselves could come up with something amazing...especially considering the reach that graphics and fx have made. However - it could also end up being JUST graphics and fx - with no real story. An Ooo-n-Ahh flick just for the bucks. That would not please me one bit. I'd hate to be disappointed.
As far as the movie Red Tails....I'm looking forward to that one. I had forgotten that he was going to do that.
I’ve seen it all now – on the news today about nuns protesting on the set of the DaVinci Code, currently filming on location in England saying it's blasphemous and Sony are guilty of heresy. It always amazes me when religion reacts to art & entertainment like this as 99% of the time the people protesting have never read a word of the offending article…
One more open minded Archbishop summed it up perfectly – it’s neither blasphemy nor heresy, it’s just a bit of fictional fluff that proposes and suggests an alternate view of history.
LOL! Yeah - what gets me....is that the book has been proven wrong anyhow....well, according to a few documentaries on the subject...there are so many....and hell, in the end - everyone could be wrong. Dan Brown caused quite a stir with that book. Seems to be more of a stir that when Holy Blood, Holy Grail came out. But, then I wouldnt remember the stir that was caused when HB,HG came out. Regardless - they really shouldnt be too upset. Especially, if they know the version is not true. But, then...maybe they think the general public is just too stupid to really look into the matter to find out for themselves. What I liked about the book is that you were offered a different way to look at it all. While it may not be true - it was still interesting and something worth looking into. At least if the general public actually does some research...they would learn a bit more about the religion. Which goes back to your comment - it’s just a bit of fictional fluff that proposes and suggests an alternate view of history. People shouldnt freak out about it all.
Narnia and Da Vinci'll be good. Apparently they're making an Artemis Fowl movie and also an Abarat movie. both very abstract. That should be interesting if it does indeed come together.
wait a sec....Clive Barker and Disney?! That's it....the world is about to end as we know it. That just isnt right....why on earth would Barker want Disney....and why would Disney want Barker?
I've seen the King Kong trailer at a theater, they might have gotten it right this time.(she said cautiously) They seem to have focused a lot more on the film crew and the island and period style.
the AeonFlux trailer is out now on Apple's Quicktime Movie trailer site and looks pretty good. Christopher - X-3 and Spiderman 3 are both two years off release yet and Superman is over nine months away so thats one hell of a wait :-)
Narnia, Brothers Grimm-maybe
Lately fims haven't been that great, so unless it REALLY grabs me I wait for the DVD...
Next year Will Smith should have his every other year action flick out (I'm hoping!!) I love watching his stuff...mostly action fluff, but always funny and exciting-entertaining. I heard about Aeon Flux a few years ago. Charlize Theron should be good if she can pull off being an ass kicker, because Aeon Flux kicked a lot of ass, as I recall.
to appreciate it I would imagine you have to both a Terry Gilliam and a Grimm Brothers devotee - at 13 years of age I suspect you dont fall into either category :-)
I am waiting for "Serenity" on September 30. It picks up where Joss Whedon's unfairly canceled TV series "Firefly" left off. It seems he may get the last laugh with FOX. I was one of the many who were outraged at the show's cancellation and overcome with giddiness when they announced the movie. They have been screening it for fans since April, but none of them have been anywhere near my home.
Just went and saw Charlie & The Chocolate Factory... it was good... the only way to describe it... the original is milk chocolate and the new one is dark... if you have a dry dark sense of humour.. you'll enjoy it..
its different to the original which was light and sweet... =) you'll love it.. Johnny Depp reminds me of a combination of Michael Jackson and Marilyn Manson... LOL
