well i know what you are listening at and that you behind you computer now
Butt , what are you reading ?
I for one am amusing myself with the Malazen empire (Steven Erikson) for the 3 time.
besides the obvious (newspapers , cornflake boxes ...)
I am a big Stephen King fan and also like Dean Koontz...I read all kinds of stuff but seem to gravitate towards the dark and slightly weird stuff, lol.

Yeah, I resisted reading it for years - partly because it was popular and I'm contrary. Also, I hate starting a series and then waiting for the suthor to write the next book (like George R R Martin's Song of Ice & Fire - damnit, when's he going to publish?)
I've enjoyed the WoT series, but it goes on a little too much - there's so many little subplots now that I'm losing track. Still, I like reading them.

Tell me about it Matthew! I keep checking Martin's website and the date keeps getting set back. I know it's hard to complete a nine hundred page book but he can't leave us hanging forever. And Tyrion Lannister better end up on top or I'll be very dissapionted.
I read Potter in three days when it hit the store. They are definitely growing up and there's a scene at the end pictured on the cover that was particularly cold, well written, and might be hard to explain to the youngest in the crowd.
And Kristof, the Preston/Child books featuring Agent Pendergast are always a thrill ride, the last two pages of Still Life With Crows hit like a hammer.
Im reading about Stockholms history to get some perspective on the city i live in..
Its a serie which follows people from 1700 century to around 1960 and is a drama but with real facts about all the things that happend . All the wars, the disseases, the poor people, how the governments worked, how they punished people by hanging them or cut their heads off..All is Documented and the author has just mixed in ordinary people that is followed until they die and next generation just takes over..Its so interesting to see the background to all the things that surrounds me, it gives me a whole new perspective on a lot of things and even my own life...I guess the Authors name in english would be something like Per-Anders Fogelstrom...:)
I've got the first book of malazan, but I'm 'saving' it - don't want to start a new series yet. Also saving the 1st book of Robin Hobbs farseer triology.
Alistair Reynolds' Sci-Fi is worth a read.
was a bit disappointed with Potter - killing that particular character off was a little obvious. I would have preferred something more subtle - still, it sets up some interesting possibilities.

This last HP was by far the worst ending I've read in a book. My children will not be pleased. However, I believe that it had to end that way in order for the next book. The last one should prove to be interesting. Can't wait.
As you, say, he may not be dead - the whole lead up to it was rather staged. It also of course puts a certain other character (his 'killer') in a very favourable position, so you have to ask whether they are still playing a role (which is the whole point, of course).
As for 'bad endings' and people getting killed - try reading Song of Ice & Fire - no character is safe!

One of my big problems with fantasy Racula, is that I can never find the first book in a series, so many times I pick one up and read the back only to see book four written on it. It's good that you found a first book.
Well I think that that particular character is dead but I agree about the other being a good guy and who says it won't take place in Hogwarts every other one has I bet that's where the final showdown takes place
Damnit, this discussion is getting too complicated without revealing anything. I'm raising a separate Harry Potter spoiler thread. Don't read it if you don't want to know!

I've just started an almost 400- year old book that's in Latin. Unfortunately I don't know Latin. So, it's really really slow going! I'm also about 3/4 of the way through Gulliver's Travels, which is a lot easier going! Oh, and also "The Five Books of Moses" by Robert Alter (first time a language expert who wasn't a religious scholar has translated the ancient scrolls). Oh yeah and another antique book of essays called "The coming of the Friars", which is kind of like reading long editorials from a 200-yr old, left-wing newpaper. But, right now Rob and I are heading off to watch the director's cut of Aliens that someone leant us. Yes, I'm weird - but Rob is normal! Quiet.
Thats ok, Quiet.. It's fun to be weird..
Just started Marjorie M. Liu - A Taste Of Crimson.. Haven't read a good vampire story in a while.. Looks to be interesting..
