Watkins Glen 1

First of all please leave comments and criticism regarding the picture with it rather then on the discussion forum - anything else regarding the area or other general discussion i would be happy to talk about in here

This image was taken right in the state park (as most of them will be) it was taken at a place called "One Mile Bridge" if memeory serves me correctly. the day that this was taken was after Katrina passed through so it was great by adding extra water to the images but made the water very brown and not as nice as normal. It can be rather difficult to get a picture in this area due to the low lighting (1/2.5 shutter speed) and you cant really use a tripod due to narrow paths and the amount of people that are trying to get by.

HI Jeffo,

If you can't use a tripod then anyone would be struggling. A monopod is an option or a beanbag? You photo is excellent but what prevents a 10 is mainly lack of depth of field. If you shut down to f22 your looking at a a few seconds exposure. If using digital you could dial up the ISO to say 800 but you really need depth of field and a long exposure. So we are back to the tripod.

Only other improvement would be to pick a time when the sky is more interesting; or simply darker......ah the tripod again!

Good effort, I gave it an 8 anyway

yea i was just doing all i could to make the shutter speed faster and not only can you not use a tripod but even trying to hold the camera still people are constantly bumping into you it was also very hazy in there due to the humidity and numerious waterfalls... and as for the sky that was right after Katrina had passed through

Watkins Glen 2

This image was taken at "Cascade Falls" with the waterfall behind me and it was looking back in the direction of the end of the gorge/town of Watkins Glen. This image is to give a bit of an idea what the landscape is like and how the water has carved the area

Watkins Glen 3

This image was taken on the outskitrs of Watkins Glen at an area called Havana Falls, it is a strange place to find and really i dont know how i did find it tucked in behind a trailor park that i had no reason to be at

the waterfall in the background is the actual falls and it stands 50-60ft tall but flows rather well... next year when i go back i plan on finding a way to the top of the falls and hiking the river a distance
