I think I have lost half of my work. Does anyone else have this problem? Or have the imagemods been busy?

I'm not annoyed, just curious.

If you would take a moment to look, it is obvious the new images galleries have been shaved down by @ 1000 images (30 pages) like it is on a regular basis.

The work of art may have a moral effect, but to demand moral purpose from an artist is to make him ruin his work. (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe - 1832)

hmm...didn't know I had 1 image per page (approx 36 gone). Oh well....more creative work required. :D

Yeah, I noticed too. But then I was pleasantly suprised to see some of them make it to the permanent gallery.

Me too...feel honored that some of my images were promoted. Lost three pages in the process, but I understand that not every image that is uploaded here can possibly stay.

I think the best way to ensure a longer lifespan for you images is to be as varied and original as possible so that the perm galleries contain a broad selection of pieces. I think one member was on somewhere else on the forums complaining that he had lost half of his terragen images which kind of speaks for it self in that in programs such as terragen and apohysis it’s easy to create quite generic looking images. It’s all good as it keeps us all on our toes striving for something different and stops complacency setting in. I’ve lost count of how much stuff I’ve had culled over the past few years but it’s good to keep things fresh.

Yeah, some of mine have disappeared, but that is the way these things go. The mods do a sterling job. As Phil says, it keeps us on our toes!

MOST of my best work is gone, but a few of my subpar images made the cut. That's the way the ball bounces, eh? Go figure.

It happened to me too but two of mine made it to the permenant galleries which is better than worrying why they were taken away...

I've gone back through all the recently removed images and gave a final reprieve to about 10. For all the others which did not make the cut I stand by the ImageMods decisions. Philcuk makes a very good point about diversity of each artists gallery. The more diverse in content, technique, and medium, the more images you are likely to get promoted to the permanent gallery. I hope to make a few changes soon that will eliminate the need to remove large numbers of images at one time like this.

If an upload is say viewed 100 times but only downloaded 60 or fewer times is should be deleted

Because if no one is interested in a work, it is taking up needed space.

needed for what? hoards of duplicate generic cg generated images? one image that is completely original with only 5 votes is worth more than one of a populist style that looks like a.n.other image with 50 votes. An image can be overlooked for many more reasons than purely its quality so each has to be taken under its own merits rather than just thinking in very black & white numeric values.

Generic CG images? Don't you mean hoards of generic photo manipulations? I'd say only 10% (If that) are unaltered. Anyways....that's a new can of worms. I don't agree with the DL/View count having anything to do with the image being removed anyhow. =0)

thats the good thing about photos - rarely two look anything like each other. I didnt mean to pidgeon hole one group though merely make the point that originality is more important than popularity.

two of my images that made it into the permanent galleries had low c-indexes and low view/downloads. By that standard, they wouldn't be there.

I believe variety in your own personal gallery is key. I've had many-a-nice image not make the cut because I have so many others of the same type in my gallery. In my case, particularly things like sunsets and waterfalls which I am drawn to photograph because they have so much natural beauty. Oddly, I just had two out of three waterfall uploads make the perma galleries and I believe the best of the three is the one that got cut but that stuff happens. I was very surprised to see two of them move on at all. I think having diversity in your gallery is important if you hope to find a permanent place for your images, but even more important is diversity in your recent work. If you upload 3 beautiful photos of the same scene from different angles for instance, you can be sure no more than one of them will make it. You might be able to sneak another one by a year later though if they really are nice :). I appreciate the challenge of finding new and different photos, I only wish I had the time that I used to for getting out and doing it... To many interests, not enough time.
